Support Ear Health Naturally

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you have had a great week! Mine has been super full, but it’s been really good! I’ve been on pins and needles to tell you Cameron’s ear infection story from two weeks ago. This is one of the most powerful things I’ve seen happen in my family’s health with natural medicine and I am THRILLED about it.

First off, I do want to say that I do wholeheartedly believe in natural medicine. It is my first option when dealing with an issue or an illness. If modern medicine is your first option that is a-okay. We can respect each other’s positions, smile and breathe. All is well. You have to do what works for you. I am incredibly passionate about being empowered and educated to take care of my family’s health and well-being to the best of my ability. I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. I believe that knowledge is power. I want to take this passion to the world. That’s why I love to share my stories here. 🙂

Almost two weeks ago, on Saturday night, Cameron {19 months} began pulling on his ear every 10 seconds. I thought, “Hmmm…that’s interesting. He’s never done that before.”

Within two hours the ear pulling had advanced to inconsolable tears. It was then that I knew something really was wrong and we needed to do something about it quickly.  I knew we needed to go to the ER to just make sure we were dealing with ear infections, but my mom had the brilliant thought to call our chiropractor. I did and he met us at 9 PM on a Saturday night. He *very gently* worked to drain Cameron’s ears. He stopped crying almost immediately.

How To Heal Ear Infections Naturally

We got halfway home when he started whimpering, so we turned around and went back to the ER where he was diagnosed with double ear infections. Poor baby!

To my shock {please understand that, obviously, I live under a rock and don’t get out much}, the doctor wanted to give Cameron Lortab {hello, a narcotic?! the kid hasn’t ever even needed Motrin!} and an antibiotic shot. I kindly declined them because poor Cameron had already had a traumatic night. We brought a prescription home and set to work healing his ears naturally.

Essential Oils for Ear Infections

These five oils were my BFFs. I diluted them and applied them as listed below every hour for the first five hours. Then I dropped it down to every 2-3 hours for the rest of Sunday and then 3 times a day for 3 more days. I just followed my momma instinct.

  • Thieves – on feet
  • Myrrh – on spine {I got Myrrh for free during a promotion!}
  • Ledum {another freebie}, Purification and Lemon – layered around ears and down neck

Herbs for Ear Infections

I put a little bit of applesauce in a bowl and added a few drops of Nature’s Sunshine liquid VS-C. It’s an amazing immune booster! I also used about 20 drops of CBG Extract. CBG is an “Ear Clear Formula.” I gave this to Cameron 3x a day for several days.

Homeopathics for Ear Infection PainSilly me thought we actually owned children’s Motrin, but apparently we don’t. So we got all the way home and it was after midnight, so we made do with Hyland’s Teething Tablets. They helped with the discomfort. I also used these wonderful earache drops that are great for pain as well. I used them as needed.

Cameron and I were on the sofa from 11:30 PM until about 3:00 AM Sunday morning. We dozed, but didn’t really sleep. At 3 AM I put him in his own bed to rest. He woke up at 8:30 AM and never touched his ears or complained about them at all. The nurse told me at the hospital that if we did the Lortab and Antibiotics, it would take 3 days for Cameron to act like nothing was wrong. Well, it only took 10 hours without chemicals. Ahem.

I kept doctoring Mr. C with these herbs, homeopathics and essential oils over the next few days and he was just fine.

I am so thankful for healing!!

Have you ever healed an ear infection naturally? What is your go-to remedy?

Stay healthy this weekend!

  1. I’ve always used garlic drops. Just a drop or two in each ear while they sleep with a small piece of cotton ball. I usually only had to put them in a couple of times. So much better for me than a 7 or 10 day medication!

  2. I don’t have small children but my older sons still get ear infections. The doctor said they are caused by allergies to tree pollen. We use herbal nasal spray every hour for first day better in one day.

    1. I apologize if this is a dumb ques, but where do you buy the herbal nasal spray? Or if you make it, could I please have the recipe? My 7 yr old just got diagnosed w/ allergies to tree pollen (as well as a lot of other things) & I am trying to find natural remedies before the allergy season starts. Thank you so much in advance for any advice!!!

  3. Our chiropractor advised us to put Lavender Oil on the lymph glands behind the ears to help the glands and ears drain. You have to do it a few times per day, but it does seem to work!

  4. I use extra virgin olive oil, about every four hours with Tylenol. My old pediatrician was also a family friend. I didn’t feel comfortable giving antibiotics every time. He told me that ear infections do go away after some time with no damage, but it is just painful. I researched it online and found EVOO works well and we always have it. I have never taken them to the doctor again for ear infections in 5 years. I see the signs coming and droo the oil in and give them some pain reliever.

  5. I have one son who has loads of food allergies and may have leaky gut. With four young kids, we have the occasional ear ache.If her ears are full of fluid that’s what starts the build up of pollen in the ears
Thank you so much in advance for any advice!!!

  6. I highly recommend the Gentle Babies book, especially if you have children. I’ve recently started using oils on my newborn and my 6 year old and I’ve already noticed a big difference. My 6 year old also has just about every food allergy you can think of and has leaky gut. I’m very anxious to see how the oils help him with all of this.
