The Amazing Power of Thieves Essential Oil

Hey y’all! It’s time for the “oily” post of the week. If you’ve been following along the last few weeks, you know I’ve been sharing a lot of my favorite ways to use basic essential oils. I’ve told you all about lemon, purification and peppermint, so today I’m going to let you in on my secret love for Thieves. I’m not kidding. If I could marry Thieves, I would. Wait. That sounds kind of weird. Never mind. Just know that this stuff is in.cred.i.ble.

You’re probably wondering, “Um, okay. What in the world is Thieves? And WHY would you want to marry something that sounds so dangerous?!”

What In The World Is Thieves? |

I’m so glad you asked! :) Thieves Essential Oil is called “Thieves” literally because it came from a legend about thieves. Back in the 15th century during the plagues in Europe, a band of thieves managed to stay alive all while they were stealing from the dead and dying. When they were finally caught, they were questioned about how they were still alive. In exchange for a lesser sentence, they revealed the combination of herbs and spices that they used. Young Living created the Thieves blend in light of this story.

Why is Thieves so awesome?  The oils that make up Thieves are clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, and rosemary. This oil smells SO good. It’s perfect for making your house smell good this time of year, as well as, for keeping your family’s immunity supported. We apply it on our feet every single night before bed.

Thieves blend is a spicy oil, so use care if you’re applying on children as it can be “hot.” I always dilute it in coconut oil or olive oil when applying on my children. :)

10 Amazing Ways I Use Thieves Oil

1. Diffuse to ward off germs and airborne crud. {I diffuse almost every night in our bedrooms. And if we’re sick I diffuse during the day too.}

2. Rub on soles of feet to protect from bugs. More often if feeling sick.

3. Place a drop on thumb and apply to the roof of mouth for a headache. {This is spicy, but it truly works!}

4. Add to washing machine and dishwasher to boost cleaning.

5. Apply to gums and teeth for pain relief from toothaches.

6. Breathe in diffused vapor when you have chest congestion.

7. Rub on the bottoms of children’s feet before going out and about.

8. Apply one drop to toothbrushes to sanitize.

9. Diffuse to resolve mold problems.

10. Put a drop in hot tea, coffee or water for delicious flavor and to stay healthy.

Wow! Isn’t it amazing how many different things you can use essential oils for? It triuly amazes me how much essential oils have blessed our family with better health, quicker healing and much more. I’ve seen essential oils change lives and I want to share them with the world! :)

A 15ml bottle of Thieves oil costs 33.75 wholesale {24% off retail!}. There are about 250 drops in a 15ml bottle, so it comes down to about 0.14 per drop. When you consider all the money you’ll save by staying well and avoiding the doctor’s office and drug store, Thieves is a no-brainer investment. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! :)

  3. Hi! I have been intrigued by your recent series on essential oils. We are a pretty healthy family for the most part but I feel like we could be even better by adding in essential oils. Would you be willing to email me with some advice on what would be the best way to get started? Thanks!

  4. How do you diffuse the oil? Also do you have coconut oil and thieves already mixed up or do you mix it every night when applying it?

    • Hey Emily! I diffuse with my Essential oil diffusers. They are cool mist diffusers so as to not damage the molecules of the oils.

      I dilute the oil in my palm every night. Dilution always sounded so complicated before I started using oils. But now it’s quick and easy. :)

  5. Myra,
    I just saw you post this on G+ and it totally caught my eye because you are like the 5 person who has mentioned this Thieves Oil to me in the last 4 days or so. I’m totally sold. I want some. How do I get it?
    I am going to share this post with all my friends as I have been doing a series on my personal website about Natural Medicine entitled “What’s in Dr. Mom’s Medicine Cabinet?” I use essential oils but haven’t used Young Living Oils before.

  6. This is like the ‘clincher’ for me to dive into using oils. We’ve always used lots of natural products, but never oils. I’ve actually been talking to a friend of mine about Young Living oils and then I saw this post. I’m sold. Do you recommend starting off with the premium kit? Does it come with thieves? Thanks so much for the info!!

  7. I love Thieves. I have recently purchased the cleaner. It makes my house smell wonderful and is not irritating like bleach or other harsh cleaners. I also have made a batch of “whipped coconut oil” and added thieves, lavender, and franks. I use it daily in place of my moisturizer.

  8. Michelle Felton says:

    I’ve been reading your blog for a while now (but have never commented). The articles you’ve written about the essential oils have been very informative. I’m looking for something to help keep us healthy – especially with the sinus problems that plague most of my family members. Like another person asked – can you help me get started? I’m curious about the kit that you have. Thanks for writing about these products – sounds like a better alternative to traditional meds. My oldest has been on a lot of antibiotics this past year and I want to try something natural instead.

  9. I have heard this stuff is amazing!!

  10. I’m a huge fan of Thieves oil. We use it to prevent the spread of colds and flu by diffusing it and making our own hand sanitizer. I love the scent too.

  11. I’m just now reading your blogpost on Thieves oil. Thanks for the great information! Question for you… Some say that kids need to get sick to build immunity and will get sick less often later in life because of it. Do you think Thieves oil would prevent most illness and actually hinder their immune system in the long term? Crazy question I know! :-)

  12. I just finished reading an article on why to use not thieves on children, but I have been using it for months now and it doesn’t seem to bother them. I use it on all of my kids including my 2 month old. At what age did you start applying topically & diffusing around your children? If it was going to affect them would it already have done it or is it something that could happen over time?

    • *why not to use

    • Myra Hope says:

      Hi Lindsey, Unfortunately there’s a lot of misinformation out there regarding Thieves. I’ve been applying on my children now 2 and 5 for over two years. It is absolutely fine. I diluted on my youngest’s feet when he was a baby, but I don’t even dilute now. True Young Living Thieves is totally fine to apply and diffuse on and around children. :)
