10 Amazing Uses for Peppermint Essential Oil

Happy Friday, lovely friends! I’m so excited to continue sharing my favorite essential oils from the 9 Everyday Oils kit that I use literally every day. I’ve written about 10 Amazing Uses for Lemon and Purification. Today, it’s all about Peppermint essential oil! :)

Peppermint is an incredible oil that has many, many uses. Peppermint is one of the oldest herbs for soothing digestion issues. Peppermint tea is very popular, but surprisingly one single drop of peppermint oil has the same health benefits as drinking 28 cups of Peppermint tea. Who in the world wants to drink that much peppermint tea? Ha!

Below are some of the ways that I use peppermint essential oil…

10 Amazing Uses for Peppermint Essential Oil

1. Relieves motion sickness and tummy aches…fast! I’ve shared about this before!

2. Curb appetite with a drop of peppermint in a glass of water.

3. Reduces fevers naturally when massaged into feet.

4. Improves alertness and concentration when diffused.

5. Relieves sinus pressure.

6. Deters rodents, insects and spiders too. Spray or drop oil on door steps or around where pests are coming inside.

7. Freshen breath with a drop on the tongue.

8. Flavors food {peppermint brownies, candy, ice cream etc}

9. Relieves snoring.

10. Helps take away tension headaches when massaged into temples and back of neck.

Young Living Peppermint is an icy-hot oil, so if the oil feels hot on your skin, simply add more carrier oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil or grapeseed oil to cool it down.

  1. The icy-hot feature is great for relieving eczema itch, too. Sometimes the eczema is made worse by the constant itching/scratching cycle and using the peppermint oil to curb the itching sensation will give it time to heal. I usually rub coconut oil into my skin first and then a little peppermint on top. This is one of my favorites!

  2. I LOVE peppermint tea, but I had no idea that peppermint oil was so much more powerful! I really appreciate all the uses you’ve listed here. A question for you: Can this oil be used as a flavoring in foods? (Sorry if that’s a stupid question–I’m ignorant about most uses of essential oils.)

  3. When I get bloated I either go for the peppermint or go for the ginger. I just love peppermint tea so much more, though. Its so…refreshing and energizing! It lasts forever, too, since all it really takes is a drop or 2 if you buy a good brand.

  4. When I burned my fingers on a pan that had been in a 500 degree oven I remembered your blog. I didn’t have any lavender oil so I used a combo of peppermint and blue cypress and followed your instructions. Worked like a charm! Never blistered at all. After a week or so the dead skin pealed away with no scars. You can bet I got some lavender after that!!
