It’s Been TOO LONG!!

HOLLA!!!

Man, it has been way too long since I have written a post! Things have been a little nutso around here, but I am committing to getting back to the blog at least once a week. Yay!

In this post I’m going to catch you up on everything that has happened over the last few weeks!

House Update:

My heart’s desire is to update and make Memaw’s house our home with meaningful, memorable touches throughout. It is so important to me to respect and honor the memories we have here while making the necessary repairs {due to age, water damage etc} changes, updates and improvements to better suit our family’s needs. Over the last year we have gotten the house re-plumbed, re-wired, foundation repaired and new windows were just installed. They are so pretty!

We have been working with a wonderful contractor over the past several months to get a plan in place. One thing we were desperately lacking was storage. Other things that needed to be finished were flooring, trim, updated cabinetry etc. Since we are expanding the kitchen {hooray!} the kitchen cabinets needed to be replaced. I was okay with this since the doors wouldn’t stay shut properly and the configuration just needed to be reworked. The fabulous copper hardware that I refurbished a couple of years ago is going to be re-used in the new laundry room. The utility (laundry) room had no closed storage…just open shelving that made my OCD freak out every time I walked into the room and saw the mess on the shelves. Haha!

{New Window & Shiplap!}

The overall plan is to finish updating the existing house, build a two story addition on the end {master bedroom, master bath with an office and play room/school room upstairs}, build a new front porch, update the exterior of the house and complete landscaping. It’s going to take time, but hopefully we will be done with it later this year! I’m so excited!

In mid-January we cleaned out and packed up the utility room, kitchen and den to get those rooms completed first. We are headed into week 4 without a kitchen or washer/dryer. It’s interesting, but we are surviving. Thank the Lord for an Instant Pot, Crockpot, blender and griddle. Ha! Since Mom and Dad live next door, laundry isn’t too difficult to do once a week. The opening from the dining room into the den and from the hall into the den are covered with plastic.

I think paint and flooring is on the schedule for this week. I’m super excited to see everything come together! Here are some renderings to give you an idea of what direction we are going…our own Fixer Upper style. 😉

Kiddo Update:

Ridley is doing really well in first grade. We are done with Science this year and we are finishing History this week. He is doing a great job at Spelling, Phonics, Reading, Handwriting and Math. It is really a highlight of my day to put aside other distractions {like my phone!} and focus on him. It is exhilarating to listen to him read. I’m just in awe! 🙂

Ridley's Birthday

Cameron is finally potty trained!! Whoop whoop! He loves playing with trains and rough-housing with Daddy.

Nora has just fit into our family routines so well. She is pure joy. She’s been sleeping 8-9 hours a night for which I am SO grateful. She will be four months old this week. She just started rolling from her back to her tummy and she is just all smiles. She is absolutely loved by her brothers.

Baby Girl

Everything is going well. We are in a pretty good rhythm of life, all praise to God!

I hope you’ve enjoyed catching up! 🙂  I will write again soon.

XOXO

Myra

  3. I LOVE the light fixture for the laundry room! Beautiful 🙂 Can’t wait to see your finished spaces!

  4. We remodeled our kitchen three years ago and it was one of the best decisions ever—totally worth all the headaches. I hope you love your island as much as I love mine—space for cookie baking, play dough, school work, coloring while listening to audiobooks on long winter afternoons. Oh I love mine!

One thought, though. You might want to exchange those stools for some with backs. Kids have a way of flipping off the back—when I was looking on Craigslist for my new island stools I ran across a number of people selling theirs for that exact reason. I was able to find three matching used Pottery Barn stools with backs for $175 total! They not only have a back, but they are heavy enough not to tip over easily.

  5. Glad to hear the updates in your life. The kids are super cute!! I can’t wait to see all the updates to your house. By the way, I don’t like open shelving either. I like to be able to close the doors and not have everyone see everything. Good catching up with you. Have a great weekend!!

  6. I am converting my attic to a bed room and put a window there. My kid would love this place to be his bedroom. And, I just want him to experience what I did when I was a kid because having an attic bedroom was really amazing!Check out here to get more information about the home renovation.

  7. I am a full time homemaker without kids. I had worked the first 8 years of our marriage, and all my single years before that. We wanted kids, but married when we were older, and the olde we got, the less it became a priority. When we both worked, our home life was just stressful. We were always wondering who was going to cook, walk the dogs, take care of bills, etc. We decided to try having me stay home and I love it! It has been a full time job for me. I have a schedule each day on the things that need to get done on a regular basis. I have actually kept track of my time doing homemaking tasks, and it is easily 40-50 hrs a week.

Home making is not for everyone. Most people have been so supportive of that decision. For every difficult question they ask about it, I have a gracious answer prepared (i.e. “what do you do all day?” “don’t you get bored?” “what if he leaves you?”). For me, it has worked. My husband loves it that he can spend time with me on evening and weekends and I can be flexible with my time. In our overly busy society, it doesn’t hurt to have a few home makers around. If it’s not for you, then that’s fine.

  8. I came across this on Google, and I am stoked that I did. I will definitely be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just taking in as much info as I can at the moment. Thanks for sharing.beauty home designs

  9. If you want to start your dream Home renovation project, you can do so by finding creative ways to work within your budget. One of the best ways to save is being flexible in your design.

  11. I’ve done some home improvement projects myself in the past and thinking of doing some more. Having an air conditioning is very important, thinking of purchasing one. Thank you.Home

  12. Living your life happily naturally sprinkles happiness around. I achieved my financial independence after 7 years of a full time well paying career. I had no complaints with my job. But i did want to quit sometime to be able to just be more available to myself, my home and my family. So now when i am soon to turn 30, i am living on my savings, am married, do not have kids, stay at home and am happy. Isn’t that the dream for most? Then why should people be jealous! But fact is, they are…Do I care? Sometimes yes, but mostly i feel grateful for being in a position that people can envy. If u are blessed to be able to do this on ur own momey, try once…it is totally worth it.

  13. Repair is always a responsibility, we are just getting started. We still have to go all the way. I think to order a peephole camera, I found this service – https://expert.bestazy.com/best-peephole-camera/, where the real reviews are collected, it is very important, home security, for me now, first of all, I found how to read reviews, for me it is the main thing. You are a wonderful person. Thank you for sharing interesting things!

  14. Wow. That was an amazing read. I know these things but for some reason it’s tempting on certain days to second guess and think these boys just aren’t giving it their all. But they are, I know they are. Every parent should read this before their first child is born, and then again and again and again.Home

  16. Now there are many cool solutions that can transform your home beyond recognition. Often it is best to hire a professional for this, they will offer you a much more interesting option than you could come up with yourself. Another question is-how to choose a good professional? Personally, this site https://windows-usa.pissedconsumer.com/review.html helps me a lot with this, because by studying the reviews of others, you have a clear understanding of the level of work of specialists
