Playful Summer Mantel
Good morning, fabulous people! I hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend. Ours was great! We worked in the yard like crazies and tackled various DIY projects (more to come on that soon!). On Monday the kids {ours and my niece and nephews} totally loved playing in the bubbles, the sprinkler and anything else they came up with. I worked on my Summer Mantel yesterday too. I wanted to keep it simple and fun, but I wanted to only use things I already had.

Mission accomplished.
You might recognize a few things from last year’s Summer Mantel. 😉 The life ring is SO super cool and old and chippy. It was calling my name. I had to use it! And I also used my DIY Playing Card Specimen Art to anchor the entire vignette. Everything is so fun and playful!
I snagged the Childcraft books at the thrift store for 0.25 each. I might have happy danced just a little bit. I loved the Childcraft books when I grew up. And they are so pretty and colorful too!
This lantern has been around for a few years. I added two pressure gauges that my dad saved for me.
Swoon.
I love the chalkboard sign from last year. It’s a keeper! 🙂
Again. Seriously awesome, I know.
I got the two wood stools at TJMaxx on clearance. I LOVE them!
Here are a few more photos just for fun!

I hope you enjoyed that quick look-see of my Simple & Playful Summer Mantel! 🙂
It was fun to put together!
What is your favorite element on my mantel?

The ChildCraft books!!!! Oh the memories they brought back! We had them in our class when I went to school too! Love that lantern and “gone swimming” sign too! That’ll be us in a month! Have a happy day, Myra!
The life ring of course!
Love the playfulness of this–especially the tube.

I absolutely LOVE it Myra! So fun and definitely playful!
Oh I cannot just say one thing. I like the life preserver with old kid cards. I love the old lantern. Love the phone wire conductors of that blue glass. Wow!!! How neat it find the set of encyclopedia!!! Awesome find!!! I guess I love it!! And love the mantel.
Friends just gave us a set of Childcraft books! I’d never heard of them but quickly flipping through a few I determined we were keeping them because it looked like they would be great fun for our girls once they can read!

I love that there’s a lot of turquoise and red, a fave combo of mine; the trick with the playing cards is brilliant, and I like how they speak to the beautiful books – books as decor are always wonderful! I like how the whole space is used but not overfilled; and most of all the the happy, summery story of the whole assembly – it’s genius!
I love the lantern, the old patina look totally ads character to your mantel
I would love to suggest a new website for all your everyday electronics and home needs, I shop here quite often

For my application, i have two windows on one hall… Husband works nights so this would create the best dark out possible! In our previous house i made Roman shades from upholstery fabric. They worked well. My mom laughed at me standing in the fabric store with fabric over my head to see if it blocked the light.
