Orange Poppy Seed Bread
Hello, beautiful friends!! I’m getting excited to begin holiday baking for giving to family and friends. It’s one of my favorite traditions. For as long as I can remember my mom has put together plates of baked goods and treats to give during this special time of year. My sister and I always love helping mom with Christmas baking. It is a tradition I want to carry on with my children.
We often make Lemon Poppy Seed Bread this time of year, but I decided to switch it up a little bit with orange peel and orange juice. Y’all. This Orange Poppy Seed Bread is SO. good.

Orange Poppy Seed Bread
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups milk {I used coconut milk.}
- 1 cup oil {coconut oil, olive oil, butter – whatever your heart desires}
- 3 eggs
- 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
Orange Glaze
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons orange juice
- 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Add milk, oil, eggs, poppy seeds, vanilla, eggs and orange zest. Beat with a mixer until combined. Pour into two greased loaf pans {or 4-5 mini loaf pans}.
Bake for 65 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. While loaves cool in pans, prepare glaze. Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until sugar is dissolved. Poke each loaf several times with a fork before spooning the glaze over the top.
Leave bread in loaf pans for 30-45 more minutes, then remove to cooling racks.
I dare you to wait until the bread completely cools to cut into it. If you’re like me, you’ll be cutting into it within an hour! 🙂
Enjoy!

Ohhhh this looks deeee-vine! Quick question: can you prepare this ahead of time and freeze for later? I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant and would really LOVE to take some sweet, tasty treats to the hospital for the nurses and doctors but I have no idea exactly when Baby K will arrive. It could be tomorrow, next week, or a month from now. Any suggestions?!

I baked this bread and It was really good! the smell and taste of the orange is yummy and wowow…thanks for sharing this recipe! God bless you.
Do the poppy seeds color the flavor, or could I make a swap to maybe chia?
I would give chia a whirl! Let me know!!
This looks easy & delish…def a good variation for fall I usually fall into a rut of making apple & pumpkin everything! Thanks for the post!
They look great Myra. I love the way that you have wrapped them too. A woman after my own heart. I bought a roll of brown kraft paper a year or so ago, along with the red and white twine. I also have an assortment of ribbons too. I love wrapping this way. They are the only things I wrap with aside from some clear cellophane bags for little truffles or sweet treats to be put in.
Prior to Christmas I will roll some of the brown paper out on our dining table and get my boys to draw on it, then I cut pieces off the roll to wrap Christmas gifts with. People seem to like it and the boys enjoy letting their creativity flow.
I love reading your blog.
Sorry forgot to say that I will definitely be trying this wonderful recipe:) Thank you for sharing.
It’s 2020 and I literally just put my batter in the oven! I’m not the best baker, but this recipe was incredibly simple and easy to put together. I pray it turns out well!
