One Year CrossFit-iversary {plus 32 Week Pregnancy Update}

/

Hey there, bloggy friends! I hope you are doing well! It has been a busy Summer. I am over the heat and ready for FALL! It’s been raining every single day this week and that’s put me in a Fall mood even more. 🙂

Today I’m talking CrossFit and pregnancy! A year ago today I walked into my local CrossFit affiliate for private 101 classes. Both Ernie and I missed the start of the 101 group class and we didn’t want to wait until the next session started. Ernie had been doing CrossFit for a few weeks and he finally talked me into it.

I was absolutely terrified and intimidated to even get out of my car to walk into CrossFit. You think I’m kidding? I’m not.  I was sure everyone was super fit and they would look at me and get all judgy. I was wrong on both counts.

I owe a LOT both to my husband and to my favorite coach, Scott. As I think back to those 101 classes and how uncoordinated and awkward I was with a PVC pipe practicing different lifts, I have no idea how Scott didn’t just burst out laughing at me. But he didn’t. I’ve never felt stupid or like a loser. We are so blessed as a box to have Scott coaching us and programming the WODs. You can just tell that he’s doing what God made him to do. I am grateful. Just so incredibly teary-eyed kind of grateful.

After a year of CrossFit, my body is definitely different (hello, 32 week pregnancy body!), but I am so. much. stronger.

I am stronger mentally.

and…

I am stronger physically.

I’m not necessarily stronger emotionally, because of these crazy preggo hormones, but I am serious when I say I love to go workout. It is such a happy place for me. It’s me time. It’s time I don’t have to worry about my kids. It’s time that I get to spend just taking care of me.

{Working out in front of a fan = glorious!}

Workouts are never boring. They are always different.

But one thing is always the same.

The encouragement, the cheering each other on, the high fives and fist bumps.

The camaraderie.

Oh, and the sweat…especially in the Alabama summer heat.

Every time I leave feeling better than when I walked in the door.

And I’m never terrified to walk inside any more. Haha!

I am really thankful that I have been able to stick with working out through this pregnancy. It has made a huge difference for me. I have modified workouts to suit what I can do and what I feel comfortable with. The coaches are very supportive of letting me do what I can and they help me figure out solutions so I get a good workout in. Safe crossfitting is where it’s at. The key is to be smart and listen to your body!

It is so hard to believe that I’m 32 weeks along today. What?!

I’m feeling so good!! I feel vibrant and healthy. I also feel energetic if I get enough rest. Getting to bed at a decent hour lately has been challenging, but I’m working on it for sure!

I have only gained a fraction – a small fraction – of the weight {70 pounds!} I gained with both the boys. I consider that a HUGE win. My goal was 35-40 pounds and so far, I’m well below that range. I credit consistent workouts {4-5 times a week} and eating clean to be a huge part of that.

I’m kind of ready to have my body back. 30 weeks gestation should be long enough, but at least I’m not an elephant I guess. I do love the third trimester baby movement. The baby loves to poke it’s feet out all over the place. I treasure the rolling, tumbling and hiccups in my tummy. I always miss feeling those movements when I have a new baby in my arms. There’s just so much sweetness I can’t even handle it.

We are waiting to find out if this baby is a boy or a girl, so I picked up a few things so we are ready either way. We are excited about the surprise!

Baby clothes

Such cute stuff!

I will be happy either way – boy or girl. Truly I don’t have a preference one way or the other. That’s probably really weird.

It’s never too late to get in shape, to stay in shape or to do hard things. It’s important to take care of our bodies because we only get one! 🙂 I am hoping that consistent working out will help my labor and delivery go even more smoothly than last time. We will see.

So, what’s your vote? Do you think boy or girl?

XOXO

Myra

  1. You are so inspiring, Myra! I agree with you on Scott’s coaching and programming. I was as intimidated as you were when I started, but I couldn’t imagine not seeing you guys regularly now. I can’t wait to find out the gender of the baby. I’m voting girl (for no particular reason) but I know you’ll be so happy either way. I hope that when we start our family that I can be as consistent and healthy as you are!
