My Favorite Way To Drink Water

Happy Friday! This week has been kind of crazy. I decorated for a couple’s shower {my brother and his fiancee’ Hannah are getting married next month!} and our storm shelter has also been installed!! I am so thankful to have a storm shelter after many years of having to run for shelter when we had tornado warnings.

I have a confession. I’m a little bit of a snob when it comes to what I drink.

I don’t drink coffee. {Gasp! I know.}

I don’t drink tea…especially not hot tea.

I drink water. It is my favorite.

I know a lot of people don’t like water. I can’t really fathom it, but I’m going to tell you my favorite way to drink water. It is not boring and it IS flavorful.

This probably won’t surprise you, but I thoroughly enjoy adding Young Living essential oils to my water. Yum! It is very important that you use therapeutic grade essential oils that are safe for internal consumption.

Citrus oils {Lemon, Lime, Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit and Citrus Fresh} are my go-to for “spiking” my water.  I also love Peppermint water. It’s so refreshing!

I Spike My Water Every Day

1. Citrus oils from Young Living are cold pressed from the rinds.

This means that they are not acidic and you don’t have to worry about hurting the enamel on your teeth from drinking citrus water.

2. Citrus oils digest petro-chemicals.

If you put a drop of Young Living Lemon oil on a styrofoam cup it will immediately begin digesting the cup and in a few minutes there will be a hole. I’m not kidding. Some of you are probably thinking, “Oh my word! Is that what it’s doing to my insides!?” Ha! No. Not at all. We all have petrochemicals in our bodies and the citrus oils help the body detox/flush the chemicals.

3. Citrus oils are great for health!

I drink citrus oils for the good flavor in my water and for their detoxing, fat-dissolving, immune-boosting properties.

4. Citrus oils are very inexpensive! :)

I only add 1-2 drops per 16 ounces of water and all of Young Living’s citrus oils are less than 0.06 per drop! I love that they are very cost effective!

5. Always use glass!

Drinking citrus oils requires a glass tumbler or glass water bottle. You can also use stainless steel straws. Because the oils can break down plastics and other synthetics, glass and stainless steel are the way to go.

If you struggle at all with fluid retention, sluggish bowels, anxiety, sluggish lymph system, drinking citrus oils in water may really help. There are many other uses and properties these oils have. They are awesome!

Do you drink therapeutic grade essential oils in your water?

  1. I am drinking peppermint tea and dreaming about a giant cup of coffee as i read this. Lol. I loved citrus flavored water. What about those hard bpa free straws like the mason bar company uses. Will it eat through those too?

  2. I’m an avid coffee drinker. I don’t like to drink water, but I do. I’ve never tried essential oils.

  3. Myra…I have a question for you. I take a statin medication that requires you stay away from Grapefruit. Could I use the Citrus Fresh which has grapefruit oil in it? We were discussing it last night but did not really reach a conclusion.

  4. Leigh Hadyoon says:

    Hi there Myra,

I was wondering, could I use regular citrus essential oils. By that I mean, just the ones in my local health food store? I believe they are cold pressed too.

    • Myra Hope says:

Hi Leigh! I would be very cautious about health food store citrus oil. They are likely adulterated. If the label says “for aromatic use” or “not for internal use” or something like that I would definitely not use them in water. :)

  5. can you drink while nursing?

  6. I want to try this! I’m getting a little tired of my lemon cucumber detox water! Where do you buy the oils?

  7. I LOVE YL lemon oil in my water! I have finally started upping my water intake thanks to using lemon to help me actually want to drink it. I notice a huge difference in how I feel too!

  8. Candace says:

We just started adding Citrus Fresh to our unsweet tea and love it!

  9. Where can you order these from?

  10. I love adding Lemon Essential Oil to my water! I drink it all day long!

  11. Christine Lopez says:

Can I use it while pregnant?

  12. Water is my favorite beverage too! I never heard about these oils before. I look forward to trying some. Great post!

  13. Can you use while pregnant?

  14. Wynde Pustejovsky says:

I am a nurse on my feet all day. I get a lot of swelling in my legs. What would you suggest to help with that?

  15. I am new to Young Living essential oils, but I love them! However I recently found out that I shouldn’t be adding them to my plastic water bottles! If I switch to a stainless steel or glass bottle, the caps are plastic, aren’t they? What do you do about that? I appreciate your help! :)

  16. So I use an actual lemon every morning for detoxing. Can I just replace my lemon with lemon essential oil?

    • Myra Hope says:

Yes! It’s actually better for the enamel on your teeth because the essential oil isn’t acidic. I would highly recommend only using Young Living because the oil is therapeutic grade…not just what you can get at the health food store that can have harmful additives etc.

  17. Donna Doan says:

Hi Myra, a few people commented on one of my pins on Pinterest and said do not ingest any oils as they can be harmful. How do we know these are safe and will not harm our insides of or body parts?

    • Myra Hope says:

Hi! I wouldn’t ingest any other brand of essential oils than Young Living. I have been to the farms and I have observed the process and the oils go through rigorous testing. The oils are GRAS (generally regarded as safe) and are pressed from the rind of the fruit, so there is no acid. I hope that helps! :)
