Hey, hey! I’m sharing my Corn Chowder recipe with y’all today. I created this recipe a few weeks ago and I just made it again this week. My family gives my potato and corn chowder rave reviews every time. It is easy to make in just about one hour and it stick-to-your-ribs delicious!
Corn Chowder
- 1 {14 oz} smoked sausage, cut in half and sliced
- 1/2 Tablespoon butter
- 3-4 medium potatoes, diced
- 1-2 celery stalks, diced
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3-4 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon salt, more or less to taste
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 {15 oz} cans cream style corn
- 1 {10 oz} bag frozen corn
- Fresh snipped parsley for garnish, optional
Melt butter over medium heat in a large stockpot. Add smoked sausage and brown lightly. Stir often to avoid burning. Remove sausage to a bowl or plate with a slotted spoon. *Don’t drain the grease from the stockpot.
Add potatoes, celery, onion and garlic to the pot and saute until onions are beginning to turn translucent. Stir frequently and reduce heat to avoid over-browning on the bottom of the pan. Remove vegetables to a bowl.
Add chicken broth, sour cream, salt and pepper to the stockpot. Use a whisk to deglaze the pan over low heat. There’s a ton of flavor in those brown bits.
When the broth mixture begins to bubble, add sausage, vegetables, cream corn and frozen corn. Bring to a boil and simmer for 30-45 minutes or until potatoes and celery are cooked.
Garnish with parsley before serving.
Note: I have finished up the chowder in a slow cooker on low for a 3-4 hours, instead of cooking the veggies through on the cooktop.
Serves 8-10. Enjoy!
What is your favorite soup or chowder to make?
Have a marvelous day, my friends!

Your corn chowder sounds wonderful! I love that it uses smoked sausage. I find turkey smoked sausage on sale a lot and don’t have many recipes for it. I will have to pick some up next time I see it on sale!

I make something similar but recently I substituted leftover Honey Baked ham (I had in the freezer from Christmas) for sausage. It was so good.

Made this tonight. Very good but watch salt. Added whole milk to cut it a little bit. Will make again for daughters birthday party.
