DIY Deep Teal Yarn Wreath

by Myra Hope

I hope y’all are having a marvelous Labor Day weekend!  We’re spending time with family and finishing up organizing our house since the move. I’ve managed to squeeze in a bit of crafting so I don’t get the crafting withdrawal jitters. Seriously.

My dear friend, Emily, created a fabulous yarn wreath, so of course, I had to make one of my very own. I’ve had deep teal on my mind for a while especially since writing about Fall 2011 Decorating Trends, so this was the perfect time to pull it outta the bag…er, I mean my Hobby Lobby cart. :)

Yarn Wreath

{fabulousness}

This yarn wreath was super easy and inexpensive to make. I had most of the items on hand, so for the wreath, yarn and fabric {shown above} I spent right about $10 thanks to sales, clearance and the 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon. Did y’all know you can pull up the coupon on your data phone at the checkout? No printing or having to remember the coupon! Yay!

Supplies I used:

  • Yarn – I used one skein deep teal and one mustard yellow
  • Straw wreath form
  • Hot glue and glue gun
  • Fabric {I bought a 1/4 of a yard of the fabric shown above and also used scraps.}
  • Burlap scraps
  • Scrabble tiles
  • Scrapbook paper scraps from my Vintage Lap Tray Makeover
  • Jute twine

I marked my wreath form like Emily showed in her tutorial, hot glued down the end and started wrapping…and wrapping…and wrapping.

Then I created a few embellishments for the wreath. I rolled up a few pieces of burlap, created a fabric ruffle, added a bottle cap and a button and this one was ready to go.

These two embellishments are from my burlap and jute twine wreath earlier this year.

I modified this layered embellishment to tie it in with the others.

To finish off my yarn wreath, I created a small pennant banner with scrabble tiles, scrapbook paper and jute twine that spells “welcome.”  I love it!

Yarn Wreath

My goal was to make a transitional wreath between Summer and Fall. And…I have two front doors, so I need two wreaths, right? Another Fall wreath might just be in the works! :)

What, if anything, is hanging on your front door?

I’m linking up to The Nester’s Wreath Party,  Before & After Party, Made By You Monday, Tip Me Tuesday, Today’s Creative Blog, I’m Lovin’ It, Chic & Crafty,  Weekend Wrap Up Party and Fall Nesting Party!

Beautiful! A much more successful version than my own yarn wreath, I think. The colors are so fresh, and I love your embellishments.

Love the colors…nice transition from summer to fall. The little baby pennant banner is so cute! Since my phone is from 1872, I still have to clip my HL coupons, but a girl can dream, right? Visiting from The Nester’s party. :)

That is adorable Myra. I have a yarn wreath that I made in gray ages ago and it is still sitting there unembellished. GASP! I need to hop on that pronto.

This is adorable! I love the idea of a transition wreath because I’m ready to redecorate, but not quite ready for fall colors yet.

hahaha I seen this and had to immediately go to Wal-Mart (Hobby Lobby is over an hour away) and get the stuff to make one! I bought khaki yarn, that way I can change out the embellishments every season without making a new wreath. I am only 1/4 of the way finished but it is going to fabulous! Thanks for this idea!

Hi
I am new at crafting and want to try this yarn wreath. How do I make the embellishments? Especially the ruffled ones?
Thanks,
