Friday Fails – A Chewed Up Football

Photobucket

This week I suffered a major Mommy fail.  I’m beyond grateful because my forgetfulness caused a potentially dangerous situation.

A few weeks ago my hubs bought these really awesome nerf balls (basketball, soccer ball and football) for Ridley.  We enjoy playing with these balls on a daily basis. After seeing Ridley  put one in his mouth, I made a mental note to not put the nerf balls in the pack ‘n play.

My mommy brain kicked in on Tuesday when I was getting the house cleaned and ready for someone to stop by.  I inadvertently threw the nerf football into the pack ‘n play. {rolls eyes at self}

I didn’t think any more about it.

Later that day, Ridley needed a few minutes in “time-out”, so I put him in the pack ‘n play.  I thought to myself, “He sure is being quiet.”

When I went to get him out a little while later, he opened his mouth and there was a chunk of something on his tongue. I started freaking out because I have this fear of him choking.

What was the culprit?

A (very) chewed up football!

So yeah, I had a major Mommy fail this week, but I’m so glad that Ridley is fine.  Whew!

  1. I did the exact same thing with a nerf football when Caedmon first started cutting teeth. It only took one chunk being taken out of it before I threw it away!

  2. Scary! I’m so glad he was okay!! You never know what they’re going to put in their mouths. I remember when Fox was about 3, I put him to bed, did the dishes, watched some T.V. then got myself ready for bed. I went in and kissed him goodnight (again) in his sleep like I always did. This time he woke up (praise God), sat up, opened his mouth and spit out 3 quarters! He had found 3 quarters, put them in his mouth and gone to sleep!!

    I was a wreck for a month. I cried myself to sleep the next few nights thinking of what could have been. I’m so thankful he woke up and spit them out, and that he didn’t choke before I checked on him. It could have very easily turned into a tragedy. God was with us.

  3. Oh dear! I’ve done that too – with my first over 17 years ago! You would think that Nerf would put a warning on those after so many years…

  4. I had a personal fail this week. I’m sad to say all twelve of my tomatoe seedlings have passed. 🙁 But I’m not going to let that get in the way of my gardening dreams. I guess I’ll just have to buy my plants this year.

  5. Wow!! My daughter constantly puts things in her mouth all the time. *Shaking my head*. I’ve tried to break her out this habit but have yet to become successful. He really chewed that ball. I am glad he is okay. I also have that fear of choking.

    I am visiting for the first time. Great Blog!!
