Friday Fails – Missing Car Keys
This week I thought I was going to slide by without having a fail to share. But alas, my short-term memory went into hibernation for about twenty-one hours, so I have an excellent fail specimen to tell you about!
I am a creature of habit. I always put my phone beside my bed at night. I have a “get-out-the-door” routine that I follow exactly. I also {ahem, almost} always put my car keys in the same place on the kitchen counter.
When my sweet hubby loses something (which is quite often, love you babe!), more often that not, I can tell him exactly where it is. I’m the “finder” at our house.
Our conversation goes something like this…
“Babe, have you seen my wallet?”
“Um, yeah. It’s in bedroom, in the second drawer of your nightstand, under your theology book and beside your flashlight.”
Yep, pretty much just like that.
So on Wednesday night when I couldn’t find my keys, I started to go into panic mode. I searched the car, my purse and the diaper bag three times – much to no avail.
My kind husband said he would leave his set of keys for me since he would be at work. I told him not to worry about the whole set of keys, but just the car key. I thought that I could just leave the house door closed but unlocked since the garage doors would be closed.
That would have worked perfectly, except for the fact when I left this afternoon, I grabbed the keys, set the alarm, locked the door and pulled it shut behind me. (I told you I was a creature of habit!)
I didn’t realize my mistake until I was leaving my sister’s house. The horrible realization of being locked out of my house hit me like a ton of bricks. I sat in the car and searched through the diaper bag and my purse – AGAIN – nothing, nada.
I considered calling the realtor to see if she could come let me in. Wouldn’t that have been hilarious?!?
At that moment, my memory decided to awaken from hibernation. I leaned back and stretched over to Ridley’s car door. I reached into the cup holder and found…
My keys!
I normally put my keys in the cup holder while I buckle Ridley in his seat. It’s a great way to keep up with the keys, but not so great if your memory decides to take a break for a while!
Have you lost your keys before? Are you “the finder” at your house?

Well that worked out well! I’m more like your husband when it comes to loosing things. I rarely know where my phone and keys are. Plus, I have a HUGE purse so when I’m searching for either of those items when we’re out it takes about 5 minutes to find them. I almost always have a slight panic attack thinking that I may not be about to get in my car!

@Christine (iDreamofClean), Ha! I can’t stand how my keys AND cell phone always end up in the bottom of my purse.
Maybe we need to invent something to attach to the inside of a purse to hold keys and phones. 🙂
HAHA!!! This just cracks me up! 🙂 Yes, I’m definitely “the finder” at our house too. When Jacob can’t find something I can pretty much tell him exactly where it is. Hmm, never imagine you and I are sisters! 🙂

@Kelly, It’s like we have the same DNA or something. LOL!
I’m more like you, I put my stuff in the same places. Of course, sometimes I forget those places, lol.
Thanks for your sweet tweet, appreciate you, friend, 🙂
@Florence, I appreciate you too, sweet friend! 🙂
Too funny…sounds like something I’ve done before 🙂
I’m most certainly the finder. And it’s only gotten worse as I have more kids… now I have to be able to remember where ALL of their stuff is! I panic when I lost something, though… Man, it doesn’t happen often, but when it does? I start having heart palpitations. Not long ago, I filled a basket at CVS and realized my wallet wasn’t in the diaper bag. I called everyone I knew from the parking lot and was a wreck until it turned up underneath the chair where I always (ALWAYS) leave the diaper bag. Just reading your story made my heart race a little! Glad it all worked out in the end!

@JessieLeigh, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who goes into panic attack mode with heart palpatations when I lose something. It’s so rare, that when it does happen, I’m a mess! 🙂
I’m usually the finder, as my housemate tends to lose EVERYTHING! 🙂
I am the finder (I am the Mom, after all) but I am also somewhat disorganized and I lose things too. Lots of things. Still, I manage to keep track of my keys because I have a habit of hanging them on the key rack, or putting them in my purse. They are usually one of those two places. My husband loses HIS keys all the time! I just lose everything else. 😉

@Dawn@ 5 Kids and a Dog, Sounds like you and your husband compliment each other very well! 🙂 A key rack is a wonderful idea…I wish there was room by my back door to hang one!
Ha! You’re a goof head, but I love you anyway. 🙂 I don’t have much room to talk.
@Ernie, Let us clarify….You have NO room to talk. 🙂 Love you babe!
I’m the finder around here and still amaze myself when I can explain, in detail, where to locate something. I don’t MOVE things, even when I see them out of place. I just make a mental note and continue on. When someone asks me where it is, I can rattle it right off. Now… as for MY stuff? I’m often up a creek! HAHA If I don’t remember, no one else does either. SIGH

Yes, I am definitely the finder at my house.
I didn’t get a post ready this week because I wanted to share about my dear friend Bill but I failed pretty badly yesterday and wanted to share it:
My landlord stopped over to talk about our upcoming move and to ask for our phone numbers because he lost them (fail on his part!) Well, I could not for the life of me remember what my phone number was! I sat there and sat there and ended up giving him Jason’s phone number instead because I just had no clue what my own phone number was! I felt so silly. I remember it now, which I guess is the good thing 😉
Have a good weekend!
