Friday Fails – Sunburns & SUVs
I thought I was going to be “fail-free” this week (except for not getting through my Bible in 90 days!) – until today.
We’ve been casually looking for a new vehicle for a while. This week, however, we got really serious about finding a car.
After hours of research, several test drives, many discussions, lists of pros and cons, a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, and finally an agreement on one particular vehicle, we made a purchase!!
Isn’t it beautiful?? Our very own Chevy S10 pickup! We can haul SO many kiddos in the back! I mean, we do live in Hickville, USA.
Just kidding!
April fools! Ha!
I would love to show you our new-to-us wheels, but my cautious side won’t let me…just in case there is a weird, psycho stalker out there.
Oh yes, I was going to tell you about my fail. Well, we all came home with sunburns this afternoon. Yeah, major mom-fail.
I didn’t even think about us being outside in the sunshine very much…and we weren’t that much. But Ernie and I are definitely {ahem…shall we say…} rednecks, and Ridley has a red arm.
Since this picture, it’s become much, much more red. 🙁
I’ve lathered Ridley’s arm with aloe vera and tea tree oil, so hopefully he will sleep well tonight. I will definitely be remembering sunscreen next time!
What kind of sunscreen is best for babies? Any suggestions?
This picture isn’t so much of a fail, but it is a historic moment. Ridley got his first skinned knee. Poor baby.

I love the Coppertone Baby Faces sticks for my littles- easy to put where you need it and won’t run into eyes! (I’m not the best one to ask though.. I forget a LOT. 🙁 )

@Alyssa @ Keeping the Kingdom First, So sorry to disappoint you, friend! 😉
just linked up my embarrassing friday fail! sorry about r’s arm – hope it heals up quickly!
Sunscreen is a MUST in our family too!! I just bought a bottle of “Waterbabies” – its waterproof and easy on sensitive/baby skin!
Poor little man!! We also buy a Lanacane Spray (comes in an aerosal can) for scrapes and sunburns — the boys ask for “the spray that makes it all better”!
You must be so excited for your “new” car!! 🙂 YAY!

@Ann Marie @ Household6Diva, Thanks so much for the tips about sunscreen and Lanacane Spray! 🙂
I have used Coppertone Waterbabies on the Princess since she was tiny. She has VERY sensitive skin, and this works great for her. I only use the lotion version and not the spray as I’ve found I miss parts when I use the spray. We use the face stick on her face and ears, and it does GREAT! If we’re out more than a couple hours, I always reapply.
One thing we do starting about this time of year is apply sunscreen as part of our morning routine. That way it’s on already and then if I forget when we first head outside, it’s not that big of a deal as there is already one layer on there.

@Kathy @ House of Hills, Thank you so much for your comment! I need to make sunscreen part of our morning “getting dressed” routine because we’re outside so much these days! 🙂
I’m looking forward to sunny days here. We’ve had a couple nice days this wk, but I know they won’t stick around.
Sorry about the sunburn.
Thanks for hosting! I’m glad I had a chance to join in this wk.

I always hated when kids got sunburned because….well it wasn’t there fault, they didn’t know, so you are not alone. LOL
Now I yell at my daughter who lays out in the sun trying to get a tan.

@April Driggers, Yay! A new car is awesome!!! 🙂
I always use sunscreen ON the sunburn. I find it heals sunburns much faster!

@Amy, Amy, that’s a fabulous tip. Thank you so much for helping me be a better mom! 🙂
You’re not the only one who let their little one get sunburned! I just typically don’t think about sunscreen on an April day in the Midwest. Oh well! We like Aveeno Baby suncreen — it’s nice and gentle and works super good. Happy Friday!

I failed in the same way this week. Though luckily I was the only one to get fried. A few doses of belladonna thougha nd the heat and throbbing went away. {thank you homeopathy!}
I use California Baby sunscreen on my little ones as it’s one of the best rated on the skin deep database. {they have a list of all the chemicals in sunscreen and rank them all} It is expensive – but it seems like a little goes a long way. And I just use my swagbucks and buy it off amazon so I got it free last year and this year!
@Donielle @ Naturally Knocked Up, Thank you so much for the belladonna advice as well as the sunscreen suggestion to order online!
Sorry about the sunburn. 🙁 Hope you and the kids enjoy the new car! 🙂

my daughters use sunscreen made for kids from avon or coppertone.Something with around 50 spf. The older grandkids that play and get sweaty use a sports sunscreen instead so it stays on instead of being sweated off.
a cool tea bath( throw 4-6 reg tea bags in the bath water as it runs) helps take the heat and sting of sun burns out, so does a milk bath( dry milk works well here)
@Chefjulsowings, Wonderful tips! Thanks for sharing them with me! You are always an encouragement!
