Nope. Never
Typically on Sunday evenings at church, we have song requests for about 30 minutes. Since this is December, someone chose “number _ _ .” I did not audibly *gasp* as I realized what I was going to have to play – “O Holy Night.” I did not look helplessly at both my mom and my sister. Then I remembered that I had just listened to Josh Groban sing “O Holy Night” just 2 hours before…
Believe me, I love the song, but if you’ve ever played it, you will know that the timing and notes are all wonky and it would take a million years to get through one verse if you follow the timing to a T. So, I decided I would not totally throw all the timing “out the window” and just wing it. Nope, i would never do a thing like that, especially when playing for congregational singing at church. Ha!
The first verse went surprisingly well. Whew! On to verses 2 and 3. I quickly realized that the words were quite unfamiliar (as in, I hadn’t just heard Josh sing them), so I did NOT quietly sing the first verse repeatedly through verses 2 and 3. Nope, never. Prince Charming did not ask me later what I was doing because he kept thinking that he was the one singing the wrong verse.
I would never do anything so insanely crazy! Nope, not me!

Haha, this is soo funny!! I was quite surprised at how well it went! I certainly did not turn the organ down for that song so that all my mistakes wouldn't be heard! 🙂
Love, love, love it. Though lovely, Christmas hymns are a nightmare to play. I'm thankful I'm just a 3rd string church pianist now. Glad you got through it.
That song is difficult! So glad it went surprisingly well!
You certainly all surprised yourselves! You did a beautiful job! 🙂 Love you lots!
Josh Groban's version of "O Holy Night" is one of my all-time favorites. The part at the end when he takes it up a key just sends shivers to my spine, and usually brings me to tears.
