Ruffled Fall Felt Garland

by Myra Hope

Fall is definitely in the air at our house!  I love to celebrate a little bit of Fall {decorating, cooking, enjoying the cooler weather} every day.  It just makes me so happy! From fabulous soups and pumpkin-cranberry pecan bread to my pumpkin specimen art – yeah, you can call us Fall crazies! :)

I created a Ruffled Fall Felt Garland a few days ago and I’m super excited to share it with y’all because it’s incredibly cute and costs just a few dollars {$1.50 for the felt and $1 for the jute}. Lotsa bang for yo’ buck, y’all!

The color, the texture the ruffle-y pattern – LOVE!

Ruffled Fall Felt Garland

Supplies:

  • 1/4 yard felt
  • Jute twine
  • Sharp scissors or a rotary cutter
  • A needle with a large eye

Since the felt was approximately 10″ wide, I decided to cut four strips 2.5″ wide.

Cut carefully so the edges aren’t all raggedy. Y’all, don’t obsess over this part. The strips don’t need to be perfectly the same width. :)

Four 2.5″ strips makes a nice ten foot garland, so measure out eleven feet of jute twine just to have a little extra. Knot one end and thread the other through the needle.  Then begin stitching {with wide stitches} down the middle of one strip.  When you reach the end, just start with the next strip. I could have taken time to sew the strips together with my sewing machine, but I didn’t want to drag out my sewing machine. A little bit of hot glue did the trick! :)

Isn’t it fabulous?!

The hardest part {which isn’t really difficult at all} of this little project is working the threaded jute through the felt.  Sometimes you just have to give the needle or felt a good yank to get it through. Ha!

Cuteness!

I’m planning on making a few embellishments to give my garland some extra pizazz. :)

Here’s a peek at where my ruffled felt garland is at my house. :)  I’ll be revealing my Fall mantel next week…I think.

Now, go forth and make your very own ruffled Fall felt garland, okay?!

What great timing! I just made a monogram pillow with some light orange felt and said to my husband, “I’ll find something to do with all the leftovers.” I now have found something to do! Thanks!

This is simple but makes a big impact! I’m gonna have to get my JoAnn’s coupons out and get some felt :) I’m a brand new follower, and I saw you first at TCB.
