Happy Memorial Day!

Did you know that Memorial Day began back in 1866 after the American Civil War? Women in both the North and the South began to decorate the graves of the deceased, hence Decoration Day which evolved into Memorial Day.

My country,’ tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims’ pride,
From every mountainside let freedom ring!

Our fathers’ God, to thee,
Author of liberty, to thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light;
Protect us by thy might, great God, our King.

I’m so thankful to all our military men and women who have given and who are giving everything to secure freedom and liberty for our land. It’s not something to take for granted!

Happy Memorial Day!  How are you celebrating?

  1. We are attending my hometown’s services in which my veteran father is part of the color guard. Then, we will visit the graves of my great uncles who died in WWII and make sure they are properly decorated.

  2. Remembering my brother Ben who died fighting in Iraq, Nov. 7, 2007. He loved the Lord and his country. We are blessed.

  3. We are enjoying a day as a family, being very thankful that our soldier (daddy and husband) is able to be here with us today! 🙂
