This recipe for Layered Texas American Dip is tried and true. My Mom has been making it for years. Now my sister and I make it for our families and for different parties and events. Layered Texas American Dip is fabulous as an appetizer, lunch or after-church-on-Sunday-night snack.
Layered Texas American Dip
- 2 cans refried beans (or use homemade)
- 1 bunch green onions
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 packages taco seasoning mix
- 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
- 2 avocados, chopped
- 2 -3 Roma tomatoes, chopped
- sliced black olives (eyeball it)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Spread refried beans evenly on a platter. Use kitchen shears to cut green onions over refried beans. Mix mayonnaise, sour cream, taco seasoning and cilantro. Spread over green onions. Layer chopped avocados and tomatoes. Add black olives and top dip with cheddar cheese.
Chill. Serve with tortilla chips. Enjoy!
*Note: You can make this dip with whatever you have on hand. You can leave out the cilantro and it’s still very tasty. I’ve had to leave off avocados before because they’re either too ripe or too hard. Layered Texas American Dip is a very forgiving dish…make it how you like it!
