Friday Fails – Charbroiled Chicken

On Monday evening, as I was fixing dinner I received a phone call from one of my interior design clients.  I took the call because a lot of moo-lah was involved.  Ridley was playing quietly in his pack ‘n play and I had chicken cooking (in a lot of water) on the stovetop.

Because Ridley decided to yell at the top of his lungs as soon as I answered the phone, I left the room to appear {ahem} slightly more professional.  As our 15 minute conversation ended with great success, I hung up the phone, squealed a tad a LOT and heard Ridley calling “ma-MA, ma-MA.”  Something in my brain remembered that, “Oh yeah, I left dinner cooking on the stove!”  {gasp!}

I ran into the living room to see it full of smoke. As I rounded the corner into the kitchen I half expected to see flames shooting up from the pot that I was cooking chicken in.

There were no flames, but the chicken was charbroiled on one side.  FAIL! Dinner was still mostly edible, but had a lingering burnt flavor. Ha!

I forgot to take a picture (FAIL), but the chicken looked something like that…

The chicken fail was one of several mishaps during the week. Just today, I changed Ridley’s diaper and within an hour – as soon as I got to my client’s house to confirm a few fabric changes – he was drenched…and he was wearing his 3rd outfit of the day.  I changed him in the car and then pulled his jeans (from 2nd outfit) up over his jumpsuit.

Hopefully no one noticed how dripping wet his clothes were. {blush}

I cackled to myself then and I’m still laughing now.  There are so many joys and embarrassments of being a mom.

Crazy, isn’t it?

I can’t write a whole post about this but…I took my child to bible study this morning and forgot to put shoes on him. He played outside in childcare in just his socks.

I did the same thing with a hashbrown casserole, burnt the onions and bacon I was sauteeing. Didn’t care for the whole “smoked” taste. :)

My fail this week had to do with my garden. First I purchased my plants on tuesday having never bought any before. I got home and rechecked my research on each one and realized I had bought collards that were about to bloom (which after they bloom they are very unappealing). The woman at the nursery was very understanding and allowed me to exchange them. The next thing I did was buy a bird feeder on sale. When I got it home I realized there was no way it could hold bird seed! :) HA! I thought this was pretty funny.

Okay, so when I was a teenager… it was my turn to cook, so I was cooking corn on the cob. Yep.. i forgot about it and all the water was gone and the corn was burnt!

To this day I still get picked on about it!!!

Oh my! I’ve definitely left the kitchen to come back and find dinner burnt to a crisp…. I do the same thing – eat it anyway!! We just scrape off the worst parts! haha

Oh yep, that happens far too often in my house. I’m an undiagnosed ADD. (ooh… look at that bird out my window!). I managed to boil all the water out of noodles this week. My four year old came to get me.
