Organization Station

by Myra on January 19, 2010

One of my goals for 2010 is to get more organized. I made a Home Management binder which I hope to share with you very soon. I also found a wonderful $1 calendar at Target in December and I bought a day planner from Lifeway to complete my organizing stash. I love, love, love my day planner because there is a verse for each day!

I had an idea to put all of these management and organizational things together on my kitchen counter. Brilliant, right? So I will see it each morning and (hopefully) it will keep me on track!

As I put together my “organization station” I realized that I needed something to put pens, pencils and notepads in. (I can’t stand clutter – just ask my hubs who thinks we’re the trashiest house on the block because I throw so much junk away!) So, I remembered this lovely hideous “toolbox” that I picked up at a yard sale last summer. I think I paid $1 for it.

Yes, it is ridiculously ugly! But I snatched it right up after I saw this project at the Thrifty Decor Chick. Sarah gives me hope for things that look impossible!

I grabbed my black spray paint (miracle of miracles) and gave this “toolbox” a new look. It’s not perfect because I really should have used sandpaper. Oh well, maybe I’ll work on it more when the weather gets warmer. I’m planning on adding something on the sides…letters, paint or something.

For now, it is the perfect addition to my organization station! Oh, and I love my thrift store mugs (aka, pen/pencil holders). The one you can see is a signed Norman Rockwell mug! Love.

I will keep you posted on the Organization Station. In particular, I hope to post details about my Home Management binder soon! It’s workin’ for me!

That is so great. I totally need some kind of organization station. I think you did a great job on the toolbox. Looks a lot better than it did.

Great idea to gather everything you need close to hand.
By coincidence, I also bought a $1 calendar at Target. It’s a bit different from yours – has a lighthouse photo for each month…. still a huge bargain!

I have something similar for bills and stamps and such, but never thought about putting my household binder near there as well! Great idea!

I love it!! A tool box like that would look cute modge podged with scrapbook paper, too. I really need to have something like that to help with my own organization.

I was just looking for the same kind of thing yesterday! I have put a small writing desk in our bedroom in place of my nightstand, and it’s working great, but I need some way to keep the clutter contained on top of it! Will have to find something in our thrift store! :)

Ooooh, I like this! I have a little spot on my countertop, but I really like the idea of having a little caddy that I could move if the need arises.

Great Job! You turned water into wine!

I got a chuckle out of your “trashiest house” line… I think my husband would agree, although he’s the one who is always de-cluttering (and i lOVE it!)

Very cute! Good luck with the organization. I’m trying to get more on top of my cleaning and organizing too (pre-baby nesting)!

Oh, this looks really neat. I’m working on being a more clutter-free house. Decluttering and then finding spaces for stuff that we really need to keep is…well…an ongoing process isn’t it? LOL
