A Clean Filter – Friday Fails

This is almost too embarrassing to post, but it’s a very important tip that I just have to share with you!

For a few months weeks I’ve been wondering where all the dust has been coming from! Well, my friends, the culprit has been found – a very, very dirty and clogged air filter. Ugh!

My sweet hubby replaced the filter and cleaned the vent for me. I can’t get over how much quieter the furnace is now. Wow.

Frugal Tip Of The Day:

Change your air filter more often than ONE time a year! {blush}
Your furnace and your maid will thank you! Ha!

Now, that’s embarrassing!

  1. It is embarrassing to admit, but we didn’t even know we were to change those! I felt like I was dusting all the time and attributed it to living in the country! :p

  2. My wonderful husband writes on the calendar when the furnace filter is to be changed (his job). He does it at least every 3 months. More often if needed. (We have a golden retriever who sheds. A lot!)

    I don’t know if this would be considered a failure, but I recently upgraded my RAM in my PC and there was 6 years worth of dust inside my computer tower! Yuk! So I’ve added cleaning it out once a year to my to do list.

  3. My DH works in HVAC and they actually make 1 year filters – the kind we have 🙂 But yes, changing your filters is VERY important – not only “just because” but your system will run as efficiently as it can with clean filters. Comprable to if you were breathing through a mask – a clean mask would be a lot easier to breath through than one that is caked with dirt and dust.

  4. I learned that too a while back. I buy the ones I change monthly! Amazing what a difference it makes when the filter can actually filter instead of collect!!! What a sweet hubby!

  5. I change our air filter every month when the power bill is due! It actually needs to be changed that often, not to mention the money you save on our power bill! Filters don’t cost that much, and you actually save more than what 1 air filter would cot you each month!
    But it’s a god reminder to change it when you pay your power bill!

  6. A few days before Christmas, I finally had a chance to make a few goodies for the library and post office and a few neighbors and one of the treats I had planned was peppermint taffy twisted with red green and neutral color– well one of the kids or husband called me into another room while the sugar mixture sat on stove about to reach 275 degrees(left room at 225)and only away for less than 5 minutes but it reached 300 degrees in that time so, everyone had bits of hard candy instead of taffy. Everyone seemed to enjoy, so it turned into a yummy treat after all.

  7. This post made me laugh b/c I’m always reminding my friends to check their air filters. Even my dentist changes hers every month because one time I mentioned it while I was having my teeth cleaned. I was leaned back and staring at the ceiling and the only thing to look at was the air return — yuck! She told me she never had changed it in the 4 years she was in the office. Double yuck!

    You post also helped me to see that we’re not all perfect and while it’s hard to admit that at times you’ve provided a safe place for us to laugh with each other and not be so hard on ourselves. It’s also a reminder to show our children that it’s OK to make mistakes.
