Eat From The Pantry-Jan. 2010

Wow! I can’t believe that I’m actually going to try this. I feel so intimidated about eating exclusively from the pantry, refrigerator and freezer.

But, after analyzing our current “stash,” I think we might just be able to pull it off!

Along with breakfasts and lunches, I’ve planned 21 dinners around ingredients that we already have – there’s a “pieces and parts syndrome” going on around here! Do you ever have that problem at your house? I’ve made a short grocery list that will help fill in the gaps to make complete and balanced meals.

My goals in this challenge are:

  • To reduce our grocery spending to $150 in January
  • To “clean out” our freezer and pantry, so when I have another Cooking Spree in February there will be room to store everything!
  • To learn to “make do” with what we have!

We will be continuing “date nights” and “leftover nights,” so that cuts down on the number of meals that I have to make. I’m also planning on keeping to a strict(er) grocery budget in 2010! Stay tuned to see how that goes!

  1. 21 meals already? That's awesome!! I've only got 14 so far…and that's only dinners. I have to keep in mind that my husband is going to be doing most of the cooking so I have to keep some of it pretty simple. :~) Good luck with the challenge.

  2. I'd be so interested to see if you can spend $150 in one month. If so, please tell us all how to do that!!!

  3. I am impressed by your plan for 21 meals with your little pantry. I guess my challenge isn't so big with my huge stockpile!

  4. I am going to do the challenge too! I am so excited already- I have planned enough meals to run through Sunday evening just from what I have thawed or in the refrigerator already. I guess you could call them creative leftovers! We have the advantage of ordering meat in large quanities from my brother in laws corporation at a wonderful price every 3 months. In November when they offered meat my husband refused saying .. we have 2 deep freezers full of stuff as it is…. so my real goal is to clean out one entire deep freeze so we can stock up on hamburger, chicken and fish at least. Thanks for letting me share!
