Frugal Fridays — The Freezer

It is official! I have fallen in love with my deep freeze (as we say in the South). I never realized all the things that can be frozen, but as I have read different blogs and experimented myself I have discovered the incredible value of the freezer. Probably most of this is common sense and not earth-shattering information at all, but it is what I have learned in the past few months…

1) Buy in bulk and freeze. When my Publix had large cartons of strawberries for 3.29 I bought several cartons. I washed and cored them, put them in freezer bags and stuck them in the freezer! They are perfect for smoothies! Also, when Walmart had bananas for 0.39/lb, I bought 12 pounds and froze the bananas! I have bought meat in bulk as well as frozen vegetables.

*Note: I found this awesome post from Jennifer at HomekeepingHeart about meat preparation! I never thought about putting ground beef in the crock pot, but I’ll be trying it very soon!

2) Don’t be afraid to try freezing new things. Butter, Coffee Creamer and Cheese can be frozen and they thaw perfectly!

3) Double a recipe and stick it in the freezer! Casseroles, Breads etc.

Like I said…this isn’t earth shattering, but just what I’ve been learning on my journey of stay-at-home-mommyhood!

  2. Great post! I’m learning to utilize my freezer too! Love the note about cooking grd beef in the crock pot. I’m going to have to try that.

  3. I like that about using the crock pot for both the chicken and ground beef. I’ve done the bulk cooking but never thought of doing the ground beef that way! Learn something new everyday!
