100 Crazy, Random Things About Me

Don’t those tulips make you smile? Tulips are my favorite spring flower! Someday I’m going to plant them in my yard! I couldn’t think of anything for a “Works for Me Wednesday” post and I didn’t have any kind of interesting photo for “Wordless Wednesday”, so I decided to do a crazy post of random facts about me! Hopefully it will be interesting and not boring, and maybe you’ll feel like you know me better by the end! That’s the goal anyway!

1. I was born in Decatur, AL and have lived in the surrounding area for most of my life.

2. I am the oldest of 5 children.

3. My parents didn’t know what to name me, so my paternal grandfather suggested my name and they went with it.

4. Yes, I was the guinea pig and my parents had to try everything new on me…I think I survived!

5. I lived on a farm for most of my childhood and teenage years. Sweet memories!

6. I learned “character” by hoeing rows of strawberries each day during the summer.

7. I (along with my sister and cousins) accidentally cut down all my uncle’s pea plants thinking they were weeds! Boy was I (we) in trouble!

8. I was part of a family tradition on Saturday morning of digging potatoes in the massive garden.

9. My cousin and I pelted one of the pigs with the freshly dug potatoes…it was fun, but we got in SO much trouble!

10. I grew up on goat’s milk.

11. I loved when new baby goats were born. I had to help with a birth one time.

12. My favorite type of fishing is when the fish are swarming eating the food and I could stick my hook in and within 5 seconds one would be on my hook! It’s waayyy better than waiting…and waiting….and waiting!

13. I was a type of tomboy who liked getting dirty, playing with animals etc, but I also loved getting dressed up and looking girly and having tea parties!

14. I never played with dolls…I thought they were dumb and I would much rather play with real animals or babies!

15. I was homeschooled through all of kindergarten, elementary and highschool and I wouldn’t change that for anything!

16. I never was good at math.

17. I was and still am a preacher’s kid.

18. I play the piano for church and have since I was six. Needless to say, the songs we sing now are much more diverse than the few tunes I knew back then!

19. I make a funny, sing-songy sound when I drift off to sleep…so say my sister and my husband!

20. My husband is my favorite person in the world. My best (boy)friend!

21. My wonderful son is my next favorite!

22. My sister is my best (girl)friend!

23. I have the most amazing, godly and stable parents on the planet!

24. My brothers are growing up and we’re actually becoming friends. They’re not near as pesky as they used to be! ha!

25. My brother-in-law was my husband’s best friend before he was our brother-in-law! We have so much fun!!

26. I knew the moment I saw my husband (as a little boy) that he would be my husband. That was 18 years ago! I went home and told my sister that I saw the boy that I would marry! How cool is that?

27. My maternal grandmother was a missionary to Africa and my maternal grandfather was involved with Jewish missions. I am blessed with an amazing heritage!

28. Before we were married 3 years ago, hubby and I graduated from highschool together (a grand class of 2!) and we were baptized together.

29. After I finished highschool, I sat out of school for a year and worked to save money for college.

30. I went to college and got my degree in Interior Design!

31. I LOVED every minute (well, mostly) of my design classes!

32. My teachers were the most incredible people ever! And I talk to them often!

33. I graduated cum laude and gave a speech in front of thousands at graduation. Oh my word! That is the scariest thing I’ve ever done. My roommates probably knew my speech better than I did!

34. I never thought I would be engaged before I finished college…although I dreamed that I would!

35. My freshman year (first semester), my Dad wouldn’t let Ernie contact me at all! Dad wanted me to realize that there were more “fish in the sea.” Didn’t take me long to realize that E was the only one for me!

36. E came to visit me once a semester (after the first) and we had so much fun going to school plays and operas. Those were such carefree days!

37. We got engaged on January 1, 2005! Happy Day!

38. I married the love of my life on February 11, 2006!!

39. We went to 4 places on our honeymoon! It was fun to travel!

40. Charleston, South Carolina is one of my favorite places!

41. I love to go anywhere with hubby and son!

42. I’ve been to Canada seven times, I think.

43. I’ve had 2 (minor) car accidents that didn’t involve moving vehicles…I’m SO persecuted and always reminded of this!

44. One of these “accidents” was the day I got my driver’s permit. I forgot how to brake and hit a post in the carport…I cried for hours til Dad got home from work and he just laughed and asked me how I did it?

45. We won’t talk about the other “accident.”

46. I grew up in a redneck county…

47. I prefer to just be a refined, Southern lady and cultivate refined Southernness in my family rather than the “redneck, Confederate flag wearing” attitude.

48. I love the Confederate flag and I used to “wear” it on t-shirts…but to me, it’s more about the fineness, hospitality and graciousness of the South!

49. I love Spring and Fall in the South. I wish that Fall was more colorful though.

50. If I had to live somewhere else, I would love to live in New England!

51. I’m halfway through this list!!!

52. After I graduated from college, I worked at a high-end furniture store for 3 years. I loved my job, designing homes, selling furniture etc, but I don’t miss the stress and commute!

53. Leaving my job was hard for me because I miss the people most, but I wouldn’t trade being at home with my sweet baby for anything!

54. I despise spiders, roaches, bees or anything of the kind!

55. I caught 21 mice in our garage this winter…major GROSS!

56. I love Mexican and Asian food!

57. I really want to adopt children!

58. I love to cook!

59. Couponing and deal finding is SO much fun for me!

60. I think it helps me feel like I’m contributing to the “income” because the “outgo” is less…make sense?

61. I love having a clean house, but God is teaching me what’s most important, so I’m not obsessing over it!

62. My least favorite chore is folding laundry.

63. I just played a piano duet with my 10 year old brother at his recital this past weekend! Fun!

64. I have my concealed weapon permit…and yes, I carry a gun for personal protection.

65. I have never been a morning person, but I’ve been getting up early more since I had Ridley and I love the feeling of getting so much accomplished each day!

66. I love to go shopping!

67. I am trying to lose this nasy post-preggo fat! Ugh!

68. I don’t want to buy any new clothes because I love my pre-preggo clothes!

69. I satisfy my shopping therapy need with grocery shopping! ha!

70. I am 7 months younger than my hubby.

71. I love to workout…once I’m doing it and after it’s over.

72. I love to ride my bike!

73. Especially since we got a bike trailer for Ridley to ride in!

74. It’s been one year since I got pregnant.

75. I had a miscarriage in July of 2007…the hardest thing and deepest valley I’ve ever been through.

76. I was out of town and away from my husband when I miscarried which made it even harder.

77. I need to think of things faster, so I can get going about my day!!!

78. I love shoes!

79. I love getting pedicures…which I need to do soon!

80. My favorite holidays are Thanksgiving and Christmas.

81. I love to decorate for these holidays!

82. I can’t wait to have lots of children to make lots of memories with!!

83. I love making crazy faces at Ridley and those wonderful smiles, laughs and giggles that he gives me!

84. I’m praying that the economy gets better soon, so my hubby can leave his second job.

85. I love my church…my Dad’s a phenomenal pastor!

86. I have the most amazing friends in the world!

87. Diversity is what makes God’s people so beautiful! If we were all the same, it would be boring, right?

88. I’m primarily a “skirt girl”, but it’s pretty much a non-issue for me. Either way, I’m just trying to honor God and my husband!

89. I love good music!

90. I love how at 3 months old, Ridley “sings” along with me and any music we’re around.

91. I wonder if anyone is still reading this ridiculously long list???

92. My favorite books of the Bible are: Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, Deuteronomy and Ephesians.

93. I love this beautiful spring weather!

94. Oh, I love my new laptop that hubby got for me!

95. I painted Ridley’s nursery when I was 7-8 months pregnant…it was a job! But oh, so fun! Want to see pictures?

96. I would love to cloth diaper!

97. I want to live “greener.”

98. I need to make curtains for the living room and kitchen area.

99. I’m going to get ready to workout now!

100. I want to glorify God in everything in my life!

  2. I read them all Myra! And I love #23, you do have wonderful parents! Do you think you could convince your mom to write a book – (or a blog!) to help teach us “younger women” how to be a godly wife and mom?
