I NEED Your Help! {My Birthday Wish}

Okay, so you might think that it’s a little presumptious to be putting my birthday wish out there.  It might be.

But, let me explain.

Last year, soon after my 28th birthday, I read this post that made me wish I could have my birthday all over again the next day.  I was so inspired and I still am.  I don’t really “need” anything for my birthday, so I’m giving back with 29 random acts of kindness on Tuesday, March 8th.

I want it to be as big as it can be, so here’s the plan…

  • My family and I will be out and about on my birthday giving 29 random acts of kindness.
  • I’m asking all my friends and family to participate with me instead of giving material gifts to me.  Their participation will mean more than a million bucks. Doing a RAOK doesn’t have to cost money…be creative!!
  • I’m asking YOU, yes you to celebrate with me. On Tuesday, March 8th, give one random act of kindness and then tweet me, facebook me, email me or leave a comment on this post telling me about it.
  • In a recap post on Wednesday, March 9th, I will share all 29 RAOK that we gave and I will be listing {and linking} the RAOK that everyone else gave.

Tuesday is right around the corner and I’m getting nervous butterflies!  I’m so so excited!

Are you in? Will you give one random act of kindness on this Tuesday, March 8th?

  1. Happy RAOKB Day! (Random-Acts-Of-Kindness-Birthday) I’ll see what I come up with on Tuesday…my RAOK are just that….random and sometimes I don’t even know I’m about to do it!

  2. Happy Birthday. I love you. …and you can count me in for Tuesday RAOK. Enjoy!! God Bless You!

  3. Count me in! My birthday is on the 13th! (and I’ve already had my 29th bday a “few” years ago, but I still tell folks that’s my age, LOL.

    Have a great birthday!
    Amanda

    1. @Lisa Marie, I think a little planning is good especially if you’re doing a lot…have something up your sleeve in case an opportunity doesn’t present itself. 🙂 But I betcha one will! Can’t wait to hear!!

  4. Awesome Myra!! I remember reading that post too & feeling so inspired (and kind of depressed at the same time that something like that NEVER crossed my mind) – what an awesome birthday gift!!

  5. Myra, count me in, I love doing RAOK, hmmm now I hope I remember by Tuesday, me being only 6 days “younger” than you!! (big LOL !)

    Blessings on your Saturday!

  6. What an awesome idea. My birthday is the 10th so I’ll meet your challenge and see if I can whoop out 36 acts of kindness.

  7. Great idea, Myra! BTW – March 8 is also “International Women’s Day” (more widely celebrated in Europe).

  8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! YOU CAN COUNT ON ME AND MY RAOK FOR YOU ON TUESDAY!
I love this idea! I am so inspired by your selflessness I am going to approach my prince charming of 29 years about this. We celebrate 30 years together in April and we have been tossing around a few ideas as how to celebrate it. We were going to celebrate it in Italy, but we know of a family in need so we gave the money we had saved to them. What an amazing gift they gave us as we were blessed by their hugs and smiles and gratefulness. We couldn’t have asked for a better blessing than that!
I know my husband will come on board with your great idea, now to send out 30 emails to 30 people and ask them to send it on to 30 people and so on and so forth. I wonder how many “anniversary gifts” we will receive this way?
To talk to my husband, Russ?, could I talk to you for a moment?…

  9. What a wonderful idea! I’m going to play off of your idea for our 50th wedding anniversary and ask my family and 762 Facebook friends to do the same! And by the way, an early HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!

  10. I’m definitely planning to do a RAOK on Tuesday! I must plan ahead as I am going back to work on Mon. after almost 6 weeks off due to shoulder surgery. Still in a sling, but I am cleaning out my closet and will donate to Goodwill clothing that I cannot wear and some still have price tags, I’m ashamed to admit. But I want to let someone else enjoy “new” clothes. Have a wonderful, blessed birthday!

      1. @Myra,

I dropped off my clothes at the Goodwill store this morning before I went to work. Would love to see the lady’s face when she see the slacks with the price tags still on them!
        Hope your day is blessed!

  11. I live in Madrid, Spain and saw your post when I checked my daughter’s page in facebook. Sounds like a great idea and I’ve made a note to be part of this on Tuesday. I’ll be 68 this month and I’m going to pass on this idea to my friends here in Madrid.

  12. Oh, you know I’m in on this one! In fact, just love this idea and think that this would be a GREAT way to celebrate the big 4-0 milestone! Will post here or FB on Tuesday. 🙂

  13. Mine actually came a couple of days early. Remember in coupon class how you talked about stockpiling by frugal shopping and couponing in order to be able to help others? Well, yesterday, after hearing that a lady in our church had shoulder surgery, I went to my well-stocked pantry and took out a box of B1G1 pasta and a jar of B1G1 sauce, added a few fresh ingredients and put together a casserole; stopped by a store on the way to church and picked up a loaf of garlic bread and presented it to the husband after church. It was a great feeling.

  14. Happy Birthday to you, my dear! I remember when you were born! Can’t believe that it was 29 years ago! You’re beautiful and I love you very much! Joshua and I plan to do something like buy Memaw some fried chicken for our RAOK! BTW, I think I’m your 29th post! 🙂 (Does that mean something?)

  15. My Random Act : Paying for the lady behind me in the drive thru line at Starbucks. The look of pure confusion on her face, as I drove away, Was priceless! Happy Birthday! 🙂

  16. My random act: My good friend and neighbor has a sick child at home, and is worries about him,. Add to that school was canceled due to flooding, and she couldn’t get out at all yesterday. I went to the market and got bagels, cream cheese, and some of her favorite coffee and creamer, put it all in a basket, and left on her car, knowing her husband would see it when he left this morning at 5am. I put a note in it saying– Believe in yourself, and believe in Him. She called me this morning all excited about it. Happy Birthday!

  17. I really strive to give a random act of kindness everyday, but I will look extra hard for opportunities today and I’ll dedicate today’s to you.

I’m also going to make a donation to Sistercare (http://www.sistercare.com/) of food and household items and I’ll do that in your name. I probably won’t have a chance to take it until Friday though. I’ll try to get a picture of everything before I take it down there.

    Happy Birthday!

    1. So glad you’re participating!! I wasn’t going to have a linky…just a name (with your link) and what you did…a list after what I did. Is that cool? You can email me what you did if you’d like. 🙂 xoxo

  18. My random act: I had left over cookie dough in the freezer, I thawed it out and baked them. A friend of mine is building a house (they are contracting it themselves – so they are busy, busy!) so I took the cookies to them this afternoon so they could have a sweet snack. Her dad really seemed to appreciate them! It was such a blessing to do that for them. Happy Birthday! I hope you had fun!

  19. My random act is really more of an unplanned act. My father who has no computer or internet access, called to see if I could take some pictures of stuff he was selling and email them to someone. So I headed over to his house, about 20 miles away, to do as he requested because I wanted to and because I could! Happy RAOK B-day Myra!

  20. Happy Birthday!

I am under the weather, so only got half way through my RAOK. I have a couple of packages here of goodies to mail–things I know they want/need. A canning set for a friend who needs jar grabber, colored bags for a friend who can’t get any and needs it to make plarn, etc. Will finish up tomorrow or Thursday, when I get out. Might even make another couple of packages while I wait if I can

  21. I made more than enough Lasagna tonight for our family, so I sent home a family serving of Lasagna with one of my son’s neighborhood friends. His mom is a dear friend who works full time outside the home. I wanted to give her a small break from cooking. Your idea was just the little nudge I needed to share!

  22. I did one more thing yesterday. I thought it was small, but ended up being so much more.
I’ve been consumed with finishing the construction part or our remodel- I want to get tot eh FUN part- the decorating- and well, I’ve pushed aside family fun to get stuff done. Yesterday was my day to patch/caulk the 10,000 nail holes in the now-hung crown molding, and caulk the ceilings, etc. I put it all aside, and made a Mardi Gras dinner for my family (complete with Kings Cake) and had it all set when my husband came home. I took the kids for a ride to see our flooded rivers, and spent the entire evening concentrating 100% on my family. Both of my kids commented that it was nice having Mama back. I got lots of hugs and kisses- So, maybe not so random, but an act of kindness, and we ALL reaped the rewards or a calm family night.

Pretty much any kind of work that needs to be surprised to find that the Obama Administration over the work should actually consider.
You know, when CACI and L-3 employees were looking into.
