Starting To Look A Little Bit Like Home
Today was a “play day.” We got about seven inches of snow during the night, so we spent the entire day playing {and making snow cream}…and not unpacking. The unpacking and organizing will wait. Playing in a historic snowfall will not. 🙂
To satisfy your curiosity, or make you think this is a lost cause, {haha} or to help me see that there is hope…
…here are a few pictures…
On Saturday…moving day
I realize that it’s utter chaos. Ha!
On Monday morning…a little bit more organized.
Don’t you love my classy window coverings? {snort}
Moving Day … again chaos
Monday morning
{undecorated coziness}
I’m starting to not love the paint color in the living room. What do you think?
Is it too gray-green for my furniture? I’m considering slipcovering the chairs, but I just don’t know.
What would you do?
P.S. That hideous ceiling fan is getting booted out the door too. 🙂
It’s looking great! I’m amazed at how much you accomplished in such a short time. It’s amazing how quickly a house turns into a home.
Slipcovers for the chairs might work but I’d wait to see how the paint looks over the coming days and decide then whether or not you can live with it. Luckily paint is easy to change! When I say easy it’s a relative thing (easier than wallpaper but still a lot of work!).
Not sure about the paint..it’s definitely a little grey, but is there snow outside in that picture? You know snow makes natural light…not so natural.
I’d live with it for awhile before you make any major changes! I don’t know if I saw a post with the name of your paint color, but if it isn’t warm enough, I know what you mean. It took me a lot of paint swatches all over my walls to find my warm gray. Yours might grow on you though, on a non snowy day things can look different! I actually have changed all of my original ideas for this house after watching the different light this year! Funny how things change!!!
WOW! You got a lot accomplished even with a Play in the Snow Day. I love the color and the only thing I would do is maybe place a few pillows on your sofa of a matching or near matching color of the wall color. I know newness is kind of in your face for awhile and like Becky said give it a little time for you to adjust to your new place and then see. Maybe a few accessories of the same wall color since the bottom is white. This is going to be one beautiful home when you get through with all your decorating. Congratulations on your new home. I love it.
I think you’re doing pretty good considering your timeline! I hear you on the ceiling fan. We have its twin in our living room and I hate it!!
What, you don’t like the ceiling fan??!! Why, that’s the same one we have in OUR living room, how dare you dislike it!
No, I’m TOTALLY kidding! I can’t stand ours, either. The only reason we haven’t given it the boot yet is because there’s been other projects tying up our $$ and I just don’t look at it. But yes, someday (and hopefully sooner than later), something better will be in it’s place 🙂
I agree with everyone else about waiting a bit longer on the paint color, just to be sure.
I agree. The ceiling fan has to go 🙂 I like the color but not so sure with the furniture. Maybe a warmer color? It’s hard to tell in pics, though. Go with your gut. You’re a fabu decorator. Have fun playing in the snow!!!!
I think it’s a very pretty color. I’d be curious to see it decorated with your funiture to know if it works or not.
I agree with Melissa, set everything up and live with the color for a bit. I painted before I moved in and ended up repainting the main color of the house in less than a year…not fun.
I LOVE all the wainscotting and beadboard!!!! 🙂
I think everything looks great.
Can you give me inspiration on molding work you did on the walls? I’m not sure if it’s called wainscotting/judges paneling. But we are looking to do it in our Dining Room and I want to get some ideas. Thanks!
I agree you should wait until you have more sunny days to decide on the paint color. AND, once you have your curtains and pictures hung, you may change your mind. But I love the idea of slipcovering your furniture. Then you would have more of the same color palette. . .
Have fun in the snow and try not to stress about unpacking- it all gets done! We’ve moved 3 times in 2 1/2 years so I know how hard it is when you want everything done now!
Sarah, thank you for your wonderful advice and encouragement. 🙂 The wall color is growing on me and looks much better to me today. Unpacking is a beast that I’m trying to tackle one day at a time. 🙂
I think the color looks good. The snow can make it look different. Look at the difference in the last two pics the “Moving Day” no snow, much warmer and the “Monday Morning” picture had snow and it look a lot more gray. I would just wait and it you decide that you hate it you can paint it later.
Oh and I know about the snow on the ground because I live in Alabama too! 🙂
Hey Kristy! You live in AL too? How fun! 😉 You are SO SO right about the snow affecting the wall color. I think it looks better since the snow is f.i.n.a.l.l.y. melted! 🙂
I love that you played instead of unpacking!
I’ll be honest, and say that as I was looking at the pictures- I noticed that the wall color looked dull compared to the colors of the furniture.
I would probably start by throwing fabric over the chair for a few days to see if that made it better. But ultimately, I’d probably end up painting.
I am in awe of how much you’ve gotten done. Moving is so exhausting. But to be able to play AND have a functioning kitchen… Awesome!
I like the gray paint. I bet it will look much better once you get some pictures and stuff on the wall. I agree with everyone else. wait it out and see after you get ‘settlee’. As for the fan…do you have a fireplace to burn it in? haha.
