Paint Selection and Progress
I’ve been in love with reds, golds and greens {bright colors} for almost five years and I’m ready for a change. I still love those colors including turquoise and yellow, but I want to accessorize with them instead of making everything red, green and gold.
I began looking at paint colors and was immediately drawn to neutrals, of course. Through process of elimination {read staring at paint colors for days on end} I decided on a family of colors from Sherwin Williams. I love these colors because sometimes they are cool, sometimes they are warm and they are always crisp, clean and beautiful!
Breakfast Area/Kitchen: Rice Grain SW 6155
Living Room: Ramie SW 6156
I got the paint color matched to Olympic Low-Voc paint at Lowe’s because I’m cheap {but not so cheap that I buy drippy, runny Walmart paint} and don’t care about paying a ton of money for big brand paint…although I {heart} Ben Moore and Sherwin Williams fabulous paint colors!
My dearest hubster painted the ceilings while I worked on destroying the kitchen {i.e. removing cabinet doors, whacking out the outdated scallopy trim over the sink etc}….it’s great stress relief! Ha!
Here are some before paint and after paint photos for your viewing enjoyment. 🙂
The gold before…
The fabulous after. I truly love, love, love the paint color!
The door is itching to be painted and that ceiling fan…oh, how horrid.
We will be taking down the fan as soon as possible. Right now it’s our only source of light in the living room when we work at night, so it’s kind of a necessity. We do have plans, however, to replace the ceiling fan with recessed cans!
The gold and purple before…eeek!
After…plus the purple that was still there.
Please forgive the not-so-flattering pic of the hubster.
We won’t tell him that it’s here, okay? 🙂
The awful before…
After painting.
I still have to paint where the scallopy trim was on the ceiling
Don’t you love the light fixture hanging by a thread? HA!
Very d.a.r.k. before…
Much lighter after…in progress.
What a mess everything is, but it is a construction zone. 🙂
Since we’ve gotten mostly everything painted, I’m starting to fall in love with the stained window trim. I never-once-in-a-million-years-thought-I-would-say-that. I’m planning on painting the kitchen cabinets and the baseboards. We are also going to be adding wall treatments and crown molding that will all be white.
What do you think? Should I live with the stained trim for a few weeks?
If you’re painting the cabinets I don’t know about the stained window trim. I would probably paint it a lighter color cream or an off white for contrast. It would brighten up the room more too!
Great thoughts Leigh! I really think I’m going to paint the window trim. It seems heavy or something with the wood flooring and all. 🙂
Live with it before you paint it–paint is always an option, but stripping it, if you paint it and then realize you liked it better stained…not the most fun home-renovation project. Especially if you have other projects to get done, don’t rush, if you’re not sure!
Definitely live with the stained trim before you paint. I totally love the clean crisp look of white trim, but there’s things to think about. Someday, when my kids are grown, I plan-hope to be a super woman neat-freak, but with little hands in the kitchen, that white sure gets dirty quick. I’m sure the wood stain does too, but it doesn’t show as quickly! ( ;
Love the paint colors! You will be able to do so many accents with that palette!
Thank you Carey! 🙂
I would leave it. My mother just went through a major remodel and after she added a white trim through out the whole house she realized that she had to paint all the ceilings because they looked dingy.
