Sentimental Treasures
A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from my Aunt. She had just driven by my deceased great-uncle’s house and his grandson (my cousin) was having an estate sale. Better yet, he was practically giving items away.
So, I did what any other yard sale lover would do. I headed to the sale.
My great-uncle (my Memaw’s brother) fought in Normandy at D-Day. His best friend died right beside him and my great-uncle never got over it. He couldn’t talk about it – at all. I have immense respect for the experiences that he went through for our country…for our freedom.
That’s the reason that I wanted a treasure. Just one.
And I came away with three for only $1.00. Squeeeee!
Two fabulous vintage trays!!! {swoon}
Trays are perfect for breakfast in bed or for a wonderful afternoon of lemonade, cherries and Whittier’s Poems. Lovely idea, but I’m a mother of a very active 18 month old. I’ll probably be sixty-five before I have calm, quiet afternoons again. Ha!
I adore this mah-velous lithograph! The birds fit perfectly on my delicious apple-green foyer piece. I love how the birdcage, nest-like wreath and litho look together. Simply amazing!
These treasures make my heart go pitter-pat. Not just because they are vintage, but because they are sentimental treasures.
Do you have a sentimental treasure? I’d love to hear about it!

Ooh, what wonderful treasures to have and to pass on to future generations!!! LOVE that lithograph! I have an iridescent glazed vase from the 40’s that was my grandma’s… makes me smile every time I see it. (Pssst… I confess I have a weakness for iridescent things. It must be indulged in small doses. ;))

Those trays are gorgeous!! I love vintage stuff like that. And I think being served in bed is a wonderful idea…that’s what hubby’s are for….you get the rest while he chases the active one 😉
Now you made me want to go out and buy a tray, I don’t have any!!

What beautiful finds, at none the less your Great uncle’s sale. Good for you to find something so adorable and sentimental at the same time.
One of my favorite treasures is a china set from my grandmother, its vintage 1930’s and has about a million pieces to it, but I just love it.

Super cute trays! I have a paperweight/glass sculpture that belonged to an elder of my college church (you know the one ;)). He collected them and when he passed away his family gave me the one that was his current favorite that sat on his desk at home. His daughters said it “looked like Katy” and he sat next to me every single Sunday night that I came to church in college. I still have it and it always gets a special place in the living room even if it doesn’t “go”.
Great finds…and so cheap.
I checked out your “candy apple foyer piece” and LOVED it! I’m looking for a similar piece for our office. I know I’ll find something great…I just have to be patient!
