Giving Challenge Update – Week 3

Last week was insanely crazy! My sister and I taught two coupon classes and Prince Charming, Ridley and I drove 2 hours one-way to spend “Thanksgiving” with his family — one week early.

Thankfully we did get to do some giving this week. I think my very favorite part of this giving challenge is that we are having to be intentional. Giving is somewhat easy when opportunities “fall in your lap”. But planning ahead, thinking through situations and coming up with special ways to give is just plain a.w.e.s.o.m.e!

Here’s what we gave this week:

Day 15: Prince Charming and I participated in the music ministry at church. If you read my update post from last week, you’ll remember that last Saturday I visited my Memaw and rolled her hair. She did make it to church on Sunday morning which was such a happy thing to me — repayment far beyond any monetary amount.

Day 16: We signed up for an “angel” through the Salvation Army and JC Penney online! You should too! It’s a wonderful way to make a child’s Christmas! I also donated to this cause.

Day 17: While getting ready for our coupon class, I tweeted for this cause!

Day 18: I met my sweet friend April for lunch and a heart to heart chat. We then went shopping together and I bought her a pretty sweater. It was a day of “giving” on multiple levels. Loved it!

Day 19: I gave my unborn niece her Christmas present early. Kelly and Jacob have been working so hard to get the nursery finished, so I purchased a little chandelier that will be just perfect in Lily’s room.

Day 20: In keeping with yearly tradition, I picked up 20 bags of fresh, halved pecans for my (ex)co-workers and drove 1.5 hours (round trip) to deliver them. And Prince Charming and I treated my sister and her husband out for a special (celebrating-before-the-baby-gets-here) dinner.

Day 21: We got up at the crack of dawn and didn’t get home until late for “Thanksgiving” with Prince Charming’s family. I did give my time, grace, patience and a smile — that counts, right?

Day 22: Currently, I’m helping organize the canned food drive. I’m typing up a list of needed food and a sign-up sheet to take to church. I’m also cleaning out my pantry and closets to donate items to our prison ministry as well.

  1. Awesome giving! Like you said, the fall in your laps are easy, it's the intentional ones that make you think and be more sacrificial at times! Great stuff for the kingdom!

  2. Great job! I think that being gracious when your children are tired and have had a long day totally counts as giving!
