He Maketh No Mistake Poem

This poem has been an incredible blessing to my heart through my highschool and college years, my miscarriage in 2007 and in my day-by-day routine.

When I was still in highschool, this poem was included in a missionary prayer letter that my parents received. I was so encouraged by reading it, so I typed it up, laminated it and posted it on my bedroom door. When I went to college, I took this poem with me and kept it near my bed. There were many times that I read it just before I drifted off to sleep. You can read here about how God used this poem to lift my heavy spirit as I dealt with my miscarriage.

No matter what our circumstances of life are, it is always good to know that God makes NO mistakes. I hope you are encouraged today as you read this poem.

He Maketh No Mistake

My Father’s way may twist and turn,
My heart may throb and ache,
But in my soul I’m glad to know,
He maketh no mistake.

My cherished plans may go astray,
My hopes may fade away,
But I’ll trust my Lord to lead
For He doth know the way.

Tho’ night be dark, and it may seem
That day will never break,
I’ll pin my faith, my all in Him,
He maketh no mistake.

There’s so much now I cannot see,
My eyesight’s far too dim;
But come what may, I’ll simply trust
And leave it all to Him.

For by and by the mist will lift
And plain it all He’ll make,
Through all the way, tho’ dark to me
He made not one mistake.

  4. A very inspiring poem! What a true description of how we should not worry or have fear about our future because He always has our best interest at heart. And if we KNOW that's the truth – why is it so hard to not worry? 🙂

  10. I was looking for this poem to print out and mail to a friend and found your website. She is grieving the loss of her son who died of cancer 2 yrs. ago. I was 9 years old when a member of the church I was attending gave this poem to me. I had been in and out of foster homes and my heart was breaking. I memorized this poem so I could keep it in my heart whenever I needed it. This poem has been a source of comfort and strength to me through every trial and tragedy of my life. I too lost my 27 yr. old son, Jamie, not to cancer, but to a violent murder 4 yrs. ago and we adopted his 2 young children. His body was dumped in a river and found by a couple two weeks later. I am now 67 yrs. old and can still say, “He Maketh No Mistake.” It’s wonderful that you have posted this poem so that it may bless and encourage many, many people like it already has.

    Our Trust is in Him,
    Barb

  11. You should look up the background of this poem. It was written by a minister in 1932 who had 3 children and his wife and child died in childbirth. A.M. Overton wrote the words during the funeral.
