Thrifty Finds & I Need Your Advice!

I had a fabulous afternoon today with my dear friend April, her baby Savannah and Ridley!  We went to Panera for lunch and then we hit a couple thrift stores.

We don’t have any amazing thrift stores around here…they just don’t exist.  But, occasionally I’m surprised to actually fall in love with something that I just can’t live without.

That happened today.

These adorable bunnies made it home with me for 0.50 each! I realize that two of them are missing eyeballs, but a couple beads and some hot glue will fix them right up!

I love tableware of all kinds – glasses, flatware, plates, linens – almost to a fault. I just love having a stash of stuff that I can create with. So, when I saw these glasses, I knew I just had to have them! I got them for 1.00 each!

When we were about finished making our rounds, I spotted the cutest vanity dressing table. I’ve been looking for a small piece of furniture for our little bitty foyer and this desk fit the bill. The price did too especially because I had some birthday money to spend! 🙂

I’ve been dreaming about this buffet for days now and I envision doing something similar to this piece. I’m going to remove the hardware and sand this baby down really well. Then I’m going to {gasp} paint it. Yes paint, not stain.

What color should I paint it? The dresser will be located close by the living room where I have a lot of reds, oranges, greens, golds and browns going on. I want it really to pop! My problem is that I love every. single. color.

So, tell me what you would do.

  1. Great finds, you must be a patient person! You may want to come link up on Thrifty Thursday tomorrow. I hope to see you there!

  2. Hello friend! You did get some great treasures. Those glasses you found are called Whitehall. I have tons of those in Amber and my sister collects a the green. They are usually $3+ a piece so you got a good deal! I would paint the adorable desk robin’s egg blue or mustard yellow. You should check out Barb Blair’s website: knackstudios.blogspot.com or designspongeonline.com These both of tons of furniture that are painted in interesting colors. (a piano even in mustard yellow…)

  3. That vanity is a great find. I’d paint it gold, or if you are feeling really adventurous, green. Like a soft celery green. Post some photos when it is done OK?

  4. Wow – great deals!!! The glasses are AWESOME!!! I would have scooped them up, too! And the dressing table is beautiful. I like the idea of a mustard yellow, too. and I’m not a big fan of yellow – but it looks like it could totally handle it. =) Have fun!

  5. Oh I absolutely LOVE those glasses! The colors are great!! Good find! Oh and I love that buffet of Lindsey’s – that yellow is beautiful! Just be sure to post after pictures!!

  6. I say you should paint it a nice lime green. Orange would be too bold I think. Maybe take a picture of the room it would be near (with all those colors) so we could all see and help you decide 🙂 I need a dresser/shelf/thing for my bathroom and you may have just inspired me….:) Oh, and we PAINTED (yes painted, not stained) all of our bedroom furniture and it turned out great! don’t be afraid to paint wood, especially if it’s old and would take forever to sand and sand and sand and stain and stain and stain and polyurethane, etc…….:)

  7. it would really depend on the SHADE of your colors. If you have primary then go with pastel and vice versa. I would trim with gold, or black…if it was mine and in my foyer next to my Christmas red front room and river green dining room I would go with a laquer(SP) black with gold trim and gold hardware with black designs. AND place a mirror on the wall behind it , candle sticks of different heights in the middle on a platter and a basket to corral all the little odds and ends that will be piled there. You did ask LOL

  8. Turquoise, yep I said turquoise, it makes just about every color POP!! Have fun and don’t forget to show us pictures

  9. I’m all about bright, bold colors so I think red, orange, or green sounds awesome….the shades depending on what goes with your other decor of course. The den in our old house was painted a burnt orange that would be great and I love all colors green pretty much(my kitchen is lime right now)so I say play around with it and it’ll probably look good whatever you decide! 🙂 Also I love the glasses. Congrats on such good finds!

  10. First of all…those glasses are gorgeous!

Now, as far as the buffet…I really like turquoise and brown together. I would go for those two colors. Have fun!

  11. Whatever color you pick, do it up BIG! The hardware could be primed and spray painted black – I did this recently and it looks great on our bedroom furniture. The glasses are great – love the greens. How about tiny buttons for all the eyes on the bunnies? Wish I had someone to go thrifting with – I LOVE it.

  12. Great finds! I am always on fhe lookout for a buffet but I haven’t one the one of my dreams yet (well, my dream price anyway LOL)

    🙂

  13. My grandmother had those glasses in green. I wish I had been smart enough to snag them! Nice find.

I’m dropping by from The Inspired Room. Come see what has inspired me in Blog Land (hint: shopping, vintage, online). We’re having a giveaway that ends Saturday night – be sure to register at AtticMag!
