Back In The Couponing Game!

This week, I finally broke my couponing sabbatical.  Around Thanksgiving I started feeling really burnt out on couponing.  Using coupons is a wonderful thing…most definitely, but I just needed a break.  We had a huge stockpile of pretty much everything except produce, dairy and bread, so I did what I needed to.  I took the break.

During the last 3 months, I’ve shopped primarily at Aldi for the items that we needed.  I love that store!  They have such great stuff and great prices!

This week I ordered a bunch of whole coupon inserts to get my coupon stash going again.  My sister and I are teaching a coupon class in a couple of weeks, so I definitely need to make sure that I have my game back on in full force. Ha!

Earlier this week I placed my first Alice order.  I bought 2 huge packs of Angel Soft toilet paper and 1 mega pack Brawny paper towels for under $5.00 (free shipping) thanks to a gift card from SavvyBlogging swag!!

Today, I hit Publix with tons of SavvyBlogging and Blissdom coupons…

PhotobucketPublix Loot! (excluding toilet paper/paper towels)

Cost before sales/coupons: 184.86

Spent: $65.80

Saved: $119.06!!!!

I almost did a happy dance at the checkout! Ha! I’m pumped and ready to go for next week!  Bring on the savings!

Have you ever taken a couponing break?

  1. Myra, I took one starting at the beginning of the year because I was so busy worrying about other things I just didn’t have the time. It’s about time for me to get back into it, though! Thanks for the reminder!

Oh, and AWESOME saving there!!! that’s inspiring!!

  2. Great Job! Don’t you just love Publix? I took a couponing break for about a year and it ended a just few weeks ago. Like you I had been shopping at Aldi for almost everything. It was nice but recently their prices (at our local Aldi) have gone up enough that I didn’t feel like I was getting such great deals anymore. So, I got my scissors out and started clipping again! I still go to Aldi pretty much every week but I only buy the essential items that I know are cheaper there than anywhere else. 🙂

  3. What amazing savings! I try and coupon but I never seem to have any for the things we buy! I do use them often for household items and hygiene items. I always have coupons for that stuff, which is great. I love seeing how much you can save, it gives me motivation to coupon better!

I will have to check out where you order your inserts from. It might be something I could benefit from!

  4. It hurt to read this. Guess where my coupons went? My 2 year old took them out of my purse and went shopping somewhere in our HUGE church. We haven’t seen them since. I just hope someone used them to go shopping and didn’t just accidentally throw them away! Okay, not reading any more grocery shopping posts, until I’m sure that those coupons have expired, LOL 🙂

  5. Very impressive haul! Thanks for the tips and your inspiration! (I love ALDI too! I only get there about every other month when I’m without the kids but I always make it my “stock up on essentials” trip. Without fail, I leave with a HUGE cart of groceries for about $80. Can’t beat that.)

  6. Okay im doing something wrong… Went shopping yesterday and only used TWO coupons! Ugh.

My issue is, is that it’s hard to find coupons. My only source is coupons.com. They don’t provide coupons in the papers here 🙁

    1. @Kasey, You should definitely check out ordering a month worth of inserts at one time! It will save you tons of money to have those coupons!

  7. Great trip!! I’m teaching my 2nd coupon class today, and I hope to be able to do more. It must be fun teaching with your sis:)

I do get burnt out on coupons at times, but for the most part I love it! The hardest part is learning about all the great deals & not being able to run get them each time. It takes way too much time & trouble to run get every deal that comes along(I’m 15 minutes from the nearest CVS,Wags, Publix, etc. & share a car with dh;)! I plan 1 trip per week & get what I can get then, and try not to sweat it when I miss a deal.

  8. I have found myself cutting back on coupons too. I do 90% of my shopping at Aldi’s, love that store too, and I find much better prices there, even without using coupons.
I used my Alice gift card too last week. I’m having my 1 yr Blogiversary next wk and Alice is giving away a $20 gift card for one of my giveaways. Should be fun!
Keep up the good work! I’m really enjoying your blog!

  9. Yes, I recently had a coupon break. When I became pregnant in October, I stopped couponing due to morning sickness… it was so bad I even threw away my coupons! I am now feeling much better, and this month I have started couponing again, which was fun! Sometimes, you just the need the break!

  10. I hate to admit it but I did take a year long break from couponing. I got too busy and lazy, especially after I paid off the last of my interest bearing credit card. I’m back in the game now though, especially since I have set new goals for this year, :).

  11. Don’t you just love it!
I’ve gotten out of the swing of couponing too because of our Gluten Free diet, but every once in awhile I can have a ‘fun’ day at the store when I’m stocking up on other stuff.

    Great job!

  12. I like that you get pratical stuff. You may not check out for $5 like some people, but everything you bought is stuff I would actual use. The cheese, juice, etc. Its not 100 toothbrushes and 150 boxes of pasta. I wish I knew how to coupon like this! Great job!
