Why I’m Doing It…

by Myra on December 28, 2009

Another challenge? I must be crazy, but this one is to benefit my heart, not just my wallet!

I always start January 1st with the goal to read my Bible through from Genesis to Revelation in one year, but somehow I always get bogged down in Leviticus or Chronicles. So, I go from reading about 4 chapters a day to reading the same books (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Psalms and Proverbs) over and over throughout the year.

Please tell me that I’m not the only one who gets sidetracked?!

So, when I heard about this wonderful challenge hosted by Mom’s Toolbox, I was thrilled! I’m looking forward to the rigorous-ness of reading the entire Bible through in 90 days. Seriously, I’m wondering if I can do it, but I’m also excited about seeing the Bible as a whole…a beautiful continuity of “Christ” from Genesis to Revelation.

The challenge involves about one hour of reading every day. That info pretty much did it for me. When I stop and look at the amount of time that I can mindlessly “kill” online, one hour of special Bible reading should be quite attainable. I may divide up “the hour” and do 15 or 30 minutes of reading here and there. The plan is fully customizable as long as I can get the reading in!

There is a special Bible that you can purchase that is designed for this challenge, but I’ve decided to “beat the odds” and use my own Bible. Prince Charming got me a new Bible with my new name engraved on it shortly after we were married (almost 4 years ago). I’ve been wanting to read it from cover to cover and this is a perfect opportunity. I love to underline and highlight as I go as well.

I would love for you to join in too!

This is a wonderful adventure and I’m looking forward to having a fuller understanding of God’s Word and a full heart of awe for God, my Saviour.

Oh, I am going to seriously consider this, Myra! You are definitely NOT the only one who gets bogged down – I sometimes get bogged down in Exodus =) It would be awesome to read through the entire Bible in 90 days.

Numbers is another book that bogs me down. :)

I did manage to read through the entire Bible this year … thanks to CBN's daily email reminders.

Good luck with your goal! You can do it!

What a wonderful challenge, Myra! I am definitely in! I also can mindlessly do many other things during my day when I could be reading my Bible and getting to know my great God better. Thank you so much for sharing this challenge.

No, you are definitely NOT the only one who gets sidetracked by the early OT books! I flat out get discouraged and give up at that point! I'm excited about the challenge too!

sounds like fun — our Church is offering a Text Project, and that's what I'll be reading with this year.

You can do it!

I read the bible in 90 days this past summer and it was well worth the time it took every day.

Good luck!

All of you made me laugh! I thought I was the only one that got 'stuck' in the OT. I take a sad sort of comfort knowing that I'm not alone.

I mentioned it to a friend that I've heard the first few books several times but never finish and she suggested we read the Bible backwards! We did. Reading the entire Bible makes all of it come together. Reading the OT helps me understand the NT and vice-versa. I'm excited about your plan!
