Never Too Busy To Stop…

A couple weeks ago Prince Charming and I were out running errands. At one store, I stayed in the car while Prince Charming went in because our Little Man was sleeping.

As I drove through the parking lot, my eye caught a sweet little white-haired man as he exited the store.

On my way around the second time, I saw him again. He looked confused. Lost.

I knew I had to stop.

(I can’t believe that my eyes are filling with tears as I remember this!)

I studied his face as I came to a stop and rolled down my window.

There were people everywhere going about their business…not stopping. Too busy to care…or too busy to even to notice.

I asked him how he was and if he couldn’t find his car. He bashfully said, “yes” and that he had parked right close to the entrance.

I asked him what kind of car he had — A beige Mercury Montego

I told him that I would drive around and look for it. After circling the parking lot again, I spotted his car. Right outside the other entrance. (Did you guess where we were?)

As I drove back to this sweet, little man, my heart filled with joy. I was thrilled and blessed to have helped him. I pointed him in the right direction and asked him if I could give him a gospel tract that I had in the car.

He took it gladly. He looked me in the eye and gratefully said, “God Bless You.”

As he walked away pushing his cart of groceries, my heart felt like it could burst. Emotionally. Spiritually.

What if I hadn’t followed the Holy Spirit’s prompting that day? What if I hadn’t stopped to help him?

When I’m old, I hope and pray that someone will stop and help me.

“Jesus said, ‘Go and do likewise.'”

  1. Myra, bless your heart….your sweet post today was a blessing to me! As I get older I am praying there will be some sweet, caring young people out there who still care enough to stop and help as you did for the older man!

You are special, I can just tell!

    Blessings!

  2. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog! It is great to come by here and "meet" you!

"What a wonderful story," she said, wiping tears as they fell from her eyes…

  3. Yes, yes, God Bless You. I am so proud there are others out there that still respect and love the elderly. Thank you. I am particularly fod of the elderly as my mom worked in nursing homes for years. I love them and always learned as I was growing up to respect my elders. That is something sorely lacking in today's younger generation. This post makes my heart sing.

  5. Wow, what a wonderful story! I cringe to think how many more times I am like the other people who were rushing around too busy or self involved to stop…

  8. What a wonderful thing to do! My eyes are filled with tears! I helped an elderly couple in a parking lot once. I watched a car full of kids back in to their car (that they were sitting in) and drive away.I hurried and wrote down the license plate #.It was just a little thing but every time they saw me again in the store they said thank you! My kids were with me too so it was a great learning experience for them!

  9. Thanks for sharing…your story brings tears to my eyes. What a great reminder for all of us. It may just be a moment of our day, but we never know when we might be entertaining angels.
