Super Savings Saturday

What does all this lovely produce have in common?
It’s all being made into baby food! Making homemade baby food saves so much money!
I bought all this produce (peas, prunes, apples, bananas, green beans, squash, pears and carrots) from Aldi. It cost only 25.85 including tax!
I have it all pureed and I’m freezing it in ice cube trays.

Here are the number of baby food servings (2 cubes per serving):

Peas — 16
Prunes — 16
Applesauce — 32
Bananas — 32
Green Beans — 16
Squash — 16
Pears — 16
Carrots — 32
The cost per serving is 0.14-0.15! So that’s about 0.07 per cube! This is about 70% less than the regular priced storebought baby food. Pretty amazing savings!

  1. I can't wait to make my own baby food for my little girl this time around! Well, I mean, I CAN wait because exclusively breastfeeding is much easier, but you know what I'm saying. 🙂

I think it's wonderful that you're doing this for your family, both in terms of the financial savings and also control of ingredients. Don't get me wrong- there's not a thing "bad" in, say, Gerber's food. It's just "veggie/fruit and water". But when you choose the produce yourself, you can be sure to get the most in-season, fresh, and flavorful available. That's a great thing to do for you baby!

  2. This is awesome! I love that it costs so little. It is more work, but it's so much better for baby, I think! 🙂
