Christmas 2010

This was probably one of my favorite Christmases ever…at least since 1998 when we had no power in a massive ice storm. A candlelit Christmas is incredibly peaceful and wonderful. This year, I loved it all.

Amid the hustle and bustle, stressed out family members and rambunctious kiddos, my heart, soul and mind were happy and peacefully absorbing each moment.

I stayed up until 4 AM on Christmas Eve wrapping gifts. Aren’t they pretty? Totally worth getting to see loved ones opening them. Call me crazy, but I get such joy from wrapping beautiful presents.

Our Christmas festivities began at Memaw’s on Christmas Eve for a late lunch and gift giving and a gift card exchange.  It was so much fun!!

Her tree was decked with handmade vintage ornaments that I adore.

My Dad got Memaw a trashcan full of her favorite foods {Honey Nut Cheerios, Ritz Crackers, Dr. Pepper etc}.  What else do you get for  a 95 year old who needs nothing? Ha!

We hung out at my parents’ house {right next door to Memaw’s} until 8:30 when we headed home to get some sleep for the big day! Then we overslept until 7 AM which is when we were supposed to be back at my parents’ for Christmas morning.  Oops!  But what a surprise we got when we looked outside and saw SNOW!!!

Just for the record, we live in Alabama and it rarely snows . . . and never on Christmas Day!!  What a gift from above!  The road was a little slick, but we didn’t end up in the ditch, thankfully!

Then Dad read from the Bible and prayed.  Isn’t Mom beautiful?!

Then the gift opening began.  Lily and Ridley had so much fun and it was a joy to watch them open their gifts.  Everyone was so happy and thankful.

Yes, Ridley’s manners are impeccable, wouldn’t you say? Haha!  It comes from his father, I’m sure.  {snort}

We had a fabulous breakfast of cinnamon rolls, breakfast casseroles and fruit.  Oh, how I look forward to this meal all year long. It’s simply amazing!  Of course, after breakfast we had to go out and play in the snow.

Beautimous!

Ridley loved the snow!!!

Lily thought it tasted yummy! 🙂

I love this man.  Like with all my heart.

The “boys” built a 6 foot tall leafy snowman.  And yes, I believe I am related to those weirdos. Ha!

We didn’t get to participate in this tradition because we had to head to my in-law’s for Christmas dinner, but sledding with a four-wheeler pretty much rocks!  Do you see how the sled is catching some air in that photo? Such. a. rush.

My husband’s side of the family…minus moi who was taking the photo.  Love these peeps!

Ridley loved his new toy gun.  So cute!

We had such a lovely Christmas with our families.  We are blessed and thankful beyond measure.

The snow is still on the ground as I write this on Monday morning.  Three days, y’all!  Snow never lasts for 3 days around here!  Woot!

Did you have a White Christmas?

  1. Hey, Myra, what fun family pics! your mama is so pretty & it looks like ya’ll had the best time with both sides of the family. Your meemaw is beautiful too. What a fun white Christmas we all had! I didn’t get outside to play in it, but it looked fun.

  2. Meemaw looks terrific. We enjoyed our snow too — beautiful. I have to tell you about our late Christmas Eve as I was helping Andrew finish wrapping his presents. We had a few scraps left over (not all the same paper) and used them to piece around the last awkward package. Pretty sad. As soon as we were done, I checked your blog and announced the title — How to Wrap a Beautiful Present. We both nearly rolled on the floor laughing (12:45 A.M.) Maybe next year:)

  3. Looks like a good Christmas for you! We had a very, very white Christmas up here! We’ve broken the December snowfall record this year at over 33 inches this month!

The picture of your mom is precious. So beautiful!

  4. Hi Myra-
Aaaaw- thank you so much for sharing these beautiful pictures. You have a gorgeous family. I miss the U.S. so much- the feeling of Christmas is all around there in December. I had a wonderful Christmas too here in Brazil.. althought it’s been 18 years since I last saw snow 🙂
    Blessings,
