Easy Valentine’s Day Garland

/ / /

Good morning and Happy Monday, y’all! I know Monday gets a bad rap, but I actually love the beginning of a new week. I’m super excited to share my easy Valentine’s Day Garland today. If you missed my Pink & Gray Valentine’s Day Wreath, be sure to check it out because I’m kind of obsessed with hot pink and gray for Valentine’s Day. Can’t get enough!

How cute is that?! I love the combination of felt and fabric scraps. They weren’t really fabric “scraps” until Ridley and I ripped them, but it was good stress relief. 😉

Here’s how to make one of your own…

Supplies Needed:

  • Felt {I used light pink, gray and hot pink}
  • 1/2 yard of two different fabrics
  • Needle and embroidery floss, baker’s twine or jute
  • Scissors
  • Heart template and marker

This project is so forgiving and customizable. You could make your hearts smaller, different colors, all the same color, use all the same fabric etc. Do whatever makes your heart pitter-pat. 🙂

Trace heart shapes on the felt.

Cut out the hearts. I cut out a few of each because I wasn’t sure how many I would want to use.

Make 2-3″ cuts into the fabric about 1 1/2-2″ apart going parallel to the selvage. Tear the fabric into strips.

Decide how long you want to make the garland. And begin by looping the fabric scraps around the embroidery floss. {Do you like my fancy garland holder? Push pins for the win!}

valentines ideas

Stitch through the felt hearts and continue looping on fabric strips. I used three strips between each heart. It can be a little tricky to hold the string taut while tightening the loops around it, but just have patience and you’ll be done in no time.

I love how it turned out!

Next week, I’ll be sharing my entire Valentine’s Day Mantel. I’m really happy with how it all came together thanks to a brilliant suggestion from my friend, Emily. 🙂

  1. I never thought pink could go with gray. This is really gorgeous Myra! We’d definitely have this on Valentines. My kids love to help me decorate and this would be another fun activity!
