Simple Winter Mantel

/ / /

Good morning! Did you think I fell off the face of the earth? I really needed a break and I’m so glad that I was able to take nearly two weeks off. I love creating, decorating, cooking and sharing everything with y’all, but I was beginning to feel a bit burned out after the holiday rush. It was the perfect time for a short break.

All the Christmas decor has been tucked away {yay!}. I finally got some creative energy on Saturday to decorate the mantel with items I had on hand as well as two new things I picked up at Target. I really love how it came together…it’s simple and full of texture.

So pretty! I used the mirror, shutters and frames from my Christmas mantel for this wintery mantel.

I bought the blue bottle at a yard sale a few years ago. Isn’t it lovely?! I love old scrabble tiles, so I spelled out “Enjoy Life” on the mantle.

I stacked a bunch of books from our ridiculously large collection. We are what my dad lovingly coined…”book-mongers.”

Do you like the touch of emerald green? It’s the color of the year for 2013!

The little white and blue chalkboard pots came from Target. I love them. I need to come up with something cute to write on them. Hmmm…

I used a piece of salvaged trim as a bookend as well as a scrap piece of firewood from the Christmas mantel to add some texture.

I found the wood ampersand at TJ Maxx a few months back.

I LOVE the scent of rosemary and it adds a perfect touch of green and winter-ish-ness. Don’t you think?

And that, folks, is my simple winter mantel. It was quite therapeutic for me to get creating again. Decorating with books and other items that you have on hand is a wonderful way to change up your interior decor!

Have you fluffed your house after taking down Christmas decor?

Have a happy Monday!!

xoxo

  1. Love this, Myra. My piano is currently empty because I needed the empty breathing space after all the Christmas stuff while I figure out what I want to do.
I’m trying to decide what to do for winter. I can’t do a lot of stuff, because when we play sometimes lighter things move around. I’m thinking the book idea might be something I could incorporate. I love the blue bottle. I saw something like that at Hobby Lobby a couple weeks back, but I’m sure yours was much less expensive. 😉

  2. So sweet! My Target had 2 of those vases left (the aqua and a coral one…I actually touched the aqua one, then talked myself out of it – I do that a lot, saves my bank account, ha ha). I still need to finish my winter re-accessorizing. I think its the dusting and vacuuming that needs to be done first that is holding me back 🙂 Have a great week!

  4. cute, just love the scrabble words!
oh, and by the way, I was making a banner garland this weekend and googled to see which way to make the twine thread through the banners … with a simple google search, your website was within the top 5 that came up! yeah, I clicked right away, having already been familiar with your site … your “grow” banner came up. Lots of thanks for all you do and your creative giftings!

  5. Very nice and I like that you put the book bindings facing towards the back. I wouldn’t have thought of doing it that way. Thanks Myra!
