Annoying Home Noises {Kidde Smoke Alarm Giveaway!}

Good morning and Happy Friday! We’re talking home annoyances and smoke alarms today. I’m fairly confident that every house has some kind of annoying sound. We’ve lived in several old houses and one brand new house and they all had their own quirky noises.

The last house we lived in had the most creaky back door. It was awful!! Every time anyone would go in or out, Ridley would wake up and want to know what was going on. That’s not-so-cool at 5:00 AM when I’m headed to the gym!

Dripping faucets are also on the “home annoyance” list. Oh yeah, and now the house we live in has creaky floors in certain spots. We’re learning to tip-toe around the creaks. HA!!

One of my big fears is a house fire. I always plan fire escapes wherever we are {houses, hotels etc.} and play “what-ifs” in my mind. My husband says I think too much about stuff, but I’d rather be prepared than the alternative.

So, back to smoke alarms…

Never ever ignore a chirping smoke alarm that’s asking for new batteries. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) statistics indicate that the primary reasons smoke alarms fail to operate in home structure fires is a missing/disconnected battery and dead/discharged battery. Y’all. That is bad. It takes five seconds to change out a battery.

Kidde has just launched a line of Worry-Free Smoke Alarms, which offer a variety of benefits to the millions of Americans who rely on continuous battery-powered smoke and fire detection in their homes. The new alarms are powered by sealed-in, long-life lithium batteries for 10 years (the life of the alarm). Amazing, right?

  • It’s Always On: 24 hr/day, 7 day/week protection from smoke and fire
  • Maintenance-free, hassle-free: never replace a battery during the alarm’s operating life and no need to worry about the batteries being removed
  • Money savings: no batteries to buy and replace every six months, save up to $40 over the life of the alarm
  • Quick and easy installation: simply twist the alarm onto the mounting bracket and it activates

We love our Kidde alarms.

At our last house I had a somewhat scary experience one evening. It was after dinner and I was in my bedroom while my husband and Ridley went on a bike ride. All of a sudden, the smoke alarm went off. I was so puzzled and couldn’t find anything wrong and then I smelled smoke right around where the alarm was installed.

I grabbed the baby, my cellphone and my laptop {you know, all the important stuff! 😉 } and ran out the door with 9-1-1 dialed into my phone. I ran around the house looking for any sign of fire and couldn’t see anything. Then I went back inside and couldn’t smell any smoke. To this day, I don’t know what caused that smoke, but I can tell you this, the Kidde smoke alarm was right on. It had never gone off when I burned something in the oven, but for a very weird smokey smell, it did.

Talk about impressive.
