Vintage Tiered Dessert Stand

Good morning and Happy Monday, y’all! I hope you had a nice weekend. I’m pretty excited to show you the treasure that I found thrifting last week. I confess, I haven’t been much of a yard sale-er this summer and hardly much of a thrifter. But, I finally found something worth bringing home…all for $4!

As soon as I walked in the door at one of my local thrift shops, I spied this vintage tiered dessert stand. {I restrained myself and calmly walked over to it. Be proud. I wanted to run.} The embossed aluminum immediately captured my attention. Things just aren’t made that way any longer, so I knew it had to be special…or at least…old. Ha!

Isn’t it pretty?

The bottom of the tray says “Aluminum by Gailstyn.” I came home and Googled and finally determined {after a call to my favorite local antique dealer} that the tiered dessert stand is likely from the 1950s. So neat! It’s fun to wonder where it’s been over the last 60 years. Besides the beautiful embossing, the beaded edge on each tier is so pretty.

I LOVE this piece!  It is perfect for receptions and events that I frequently decorate for. I can see cupcakes or cookies on it. Maybe even sausage balls, crackers or fruit.

I saw an exact match on Etsy for $48.00, so I’m pretty sure I got a deal for $4. 🙂  After holding out and saving my money for something special, it was worth the wait to discover this lovely dessert stand.

Scoring vintage treasures on the cheap is one of my favorite hobbies…like the day I found that incredible antique stove board. SUCH an amazing find!

Have you been thrifting lately? Do you know anything about Aluminum by Gailstyn? I couldn’t find where it was manufactured.

  1. It’s beautiful!! I just never have any good luck here in my little small town thrift stores……but I keep going, cause I know one of these days something will show up!! LOL. I try to be optimistically optimistic! Thanks for sharing and congrats on beautiful baby boy!

  2. Beautiful, looks like there are records within the state of Texas for th The Gailstyn Co, they not only worked with aluminum but plastics and wood as well.

  3. I made a cake stand out of an old plate with roses (already had it) and a lone old glass that I found for 49 cents at Salvation Army. At the same store I found a gently used red Liz Claiborne purse for $2.99. I’ve been having good luck at that store finding purses!

  4. It’s beautiful! I’m not much of a thrifter (wish I was) but I would definitely snatch that deal up if I saw it.

  5. I have the exact one!! I organized a yard sale in my neighborhood once, and one of my neighbors had this out…it didn’t sell, and I fell in love with it, so she GAVE it to me to thank me for organizing the sale! How’s that for a deal?! An older lady, so I assume it definitely WAS from the 50’s. Love it!

  6. I have a good collection of this type of metal plates/trays, bowls. I have the same exact item showed
it sits on my island with fruit in it.

  7. I just acquired a piece that is almost an exact match but only had two layers. Perhaps one of the original layers had been damaged over the years.
