My Life Is A Crazy Train

/

Happy Friday, y’all! I’m excited that it’s the weekend! I can’t believe that my sweet, little Cameron will be a month old tomorrow. Where in the world has the time gone? And why in the world is this weight not coming off faster? Ha!

{Ridley said that I look like this bunny! Huh?}

I feel like I’m adjusting pretty well to being a momma of two boys. I LOVE my boys. Some days, I feel like my life is a crazy train…or I belong in the crazy house. Or both. Mostly I choose to laugh when I really feel like crying. {hello, hormones!}

I’m in a fun rotation of feeding, wiping bottoms, cleaning up, playing, rocking, loving and repeating the process over and over again. It’s a good, happy life. But it’s not perfect. Because I’m not perfect and this beautiful world we live in isn’t perfect either.

I am often on my knees asking forgiveness from my children {and God} for impatience, raising my voice {okay, yelling} and being generally grumpy. I tell them that I need Jesus to help me be a better momma. My hope and trust is that in spite of my failures, they will know that they are loved both by their parents and by God. All is grace.

Ridley is slowly adjusting to having a baby brother. He loves Cameron and wants to love on him and kiss him all the time. I have to watch Ridley carefully otherwise Cameron would probably be smooshed or suffocated. Three year olds don’t have much common sense, do they? 🙂

Cameron is doing spectacularly. He weighs ten pounds and he just began sleeping 6-8 hours straight through at night. Although, since I just typed that I’m sure it’s jinxed and he’ll be up every 2 hours tonight. HA! He’s a great eater and phenomenal sleeper. He loves to be swaddled {it’s like a miracle sleeping pill!} except that he always gets one arm out. It’s so cute!

Our boys bring us so much joy!

I’ve found that having a morning routine has been the key to my sanity. We get up, have breakfast and then Ridley sits on my bed-watching Netflix or reading books-while I take a shower and get ready for the day. Then we have Bible time and Ridley and I do his “school work.” We play a card game like Old Maid and read library books. Then it’s lunch time. And naptime. Ahh!

I’m really proud because Ridley knows his alphabet and he can count to 15 well. After that, he skips all around before he reaches 30. He knows about 35 catechism questions and answers as well as a few Bible verses. He’s learning to recognize worldwide landmarks with flashcards and he just learned the Presidents on Mount Rushmore! Ridley LOVES to learn!

Even though life feels like a crazy train I wouldn’t change a single thing.

{LOVE me some baby feet}

In the middle of it all, I am thankful.

So very thankful.

These little people with precious little souls that I take care of and nurture every day are such a gift. What a privilege! It’s all worth being pooped on, barfed on, peed on and whatever other “______ on” you can think of…totally worth it.

I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend!  Go love on your family!

XO

  1. Boys are the best! I have 4brothers no sisters,2nephews no nieces, 3sons,no daughters, and 2grandsons no gdaughters. Remember you are raising men,you are not rising them to be boys. Make sense?
    Enjoy!

  2. Hi Myra, I’m sooo happy for ya’ll! I can tell your boys are such sweeties! It may be a little early for this, but also also teach Ridley his address and a phone number he can use to reach ya’ll. Have a great weekend with ALL your men! 🙂

  3. I couldn’t agree with you more Myra that it’s such a privilege to take care of sweet little ones! My little guy is 20 months now and he is just full of smiles (most of the time) and full of energy. I would trade these sweet moments for anything!!

  4. My best piece of advice for you is to always keep in your mind that each of these steps along the way is a phase. We have to remember that.

    We have five boys. When our twins were born (baby 3 and 4) I remember sitting on the couch one day nursing from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm. Nurse baby A, change baby A, put baby A down to sleep. Nurse baby B, change baby B, put baby B down to sleep. Nurse baby A, etc. This was during one of their “growth spurts”. All I could think is THIS is what life is going to be like FOREVER! How will I ever get a shower, a meal, any rest? My husband worked long hours and neither of our families could help. There are pictures of me during that first year of their life where I look like death warmed over. But we push ahead. I lived in this mindset of “just do the next thing”.

    Soon the next phase came. And then the next phase came and before long I realized everything is just here for a short time. Just a phase. It seems long when we are in the tranches, but really this too will soon pass.

    Our twins are now 6 and a half. It seems like yesterday I sat nursing them…. for hours.

    As our family has grown, I’ve adjusted to the crazy train. You will too.

    I PROMISE it gets better. Promise. 🙂

  5. Your little boys are lucky to have such a loving kind mom! May your transition to a family of four continue to go smoothly as possible. I would love to see a future post on what your favorite educational books, tools, preschool worksheet things are. Thanks and take care!

  6. About the bunny – I think Ridley’s right! It’s something about the eyes ; )

    You are a treasure, Myra. So glad I found your blog. Thanks for your positive and uplifting perspective on life.

    PS What catechism is Ridley learning?
