DIY Spring Wreath Tutorial

/ / /

Since Spring has officially “sprung” according to the calendar, I thought it would be fun to share a super fun DIY Spring Wreath project that I just finished for the Scribble Shop Challenge. I love a good challenge!

Considering the box of random supplies that I was sent to work with, I’m simply thrilled with how cute this wreath turned out! It’s a Spring miracle to be sure!

I was sent a box with these supplies and the challenge was to use everything in the box. Honestly, my jaw dropped {in shock and dismay} when I saw the supplies that I had to work with. How in the world do they go together??  What could I make that won’t look like a Mardi Gras feather fest?? 🙂

Supplies from the box: {I used everything except the royal blue roving.}

Supplies from my stash:

  • 10 inch Straw wrapped wreath
  • Burlap {cut into 2.5″ wide strips}
  • Glue gun/glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Needle, thread and pins for fabric flowers
  • Plaque or gift card tin lid for “Welcome Spring” sign
  • Jute twine or ribbon
  • Chalk or chalkboard marker

To get started, I wrapped the wreath form with burlap strips which I secured with hot glue.

Then, I made the fabric squares {LOVE the colors!!} into three Kanzashi flowers – one large and two small.

Pretty!!! The glitter brads are perfect for the flower centers.

Next, I made two more “flowers” using the Ferrero Rocher wrappers, green roving and glitter brads. I used hot glue to attach everything including a few turquoise and yellow feathers.

For the sign, I recycled a gift card tin lid, but you could use any number of things. I made a hole in each corner with a hammer and nail then I brushed on three coats of chalkboard paint and let it dry overnight. I embellished the chalkboard with glue and glitter around the edges. To finish off the sign, I threaded jute twine through each hole and knotted it.

A bit of hot glue on each piece of twine secured the sign to the back of the wreath. Easy peasy!

Can you believe it? That this DIY Spring Wreath came out of a box of funky crafting supplies!

What would you have made? Would you have felt stumped too?

  1. You did a great job on that. Do you have a tutorial on how you did those fabric flowers? I made my own fabric through Spoonflower and you have to purchase a sample swatch to check for accurate colors before you can add your fabric to sell to the public. So I have all these small 8″x8″ swatches and I couldn’t think of what to do with them. But I think these fabric flowers would be perfect!

    1. Thanks Vicki! I linked to one tutorial in the post for Kanzashi flowers, but you can Google tutorials and I think there are some on You Tube that I used when I first began making them. I hope that helps!

I threw together my Spring Mantel, including a new wreath and pennant banner from stuff I had in my craft closet, JUST in time!
