Simple & Colorful Spring Mantel

/ / /

Hey, hey!  I hope y’all had a fantabulous weekend!  We have been out of town in Indianapolis at a conference and visiting with my husband’s grandparents. I’m ridiculously excited to share my Spring 2012 Mantel today!!  It is one of my favorite mantel decorating projects so far. Everything on it came from either a yard sale, thrift store, antique store or flea market.

Isn’t the fireplace just the happiest thing ever?!

I wanted to keep the mantel decorations simple so that I could live with them for a few months…maybe even until Fall. Yeah, right. Who am I kidding?! I’ll probably change it up a bit in a few weeks.

The oil painting is an original. I snagged it at the thrift store for $42 which is typically WAY out of my price range, but it was framed and the tag on the back is from an annual starving artists sale where it was sold for over $400. Yowza! While I liked the oil painting framed, I really love it’s unframed simplicity.

I’ve had this cute little bunny since I was a very little girl. It’s perfect for Spring! Stacked books, an old cigar box and pedestal bowl of lemons add just the right amount of color and texture.

I found this bunny at the thrift store. I almost spray painted him, but I decided to leave him white…at least for now.  I added a smaller pedestal bowl with {fake} grass, more stacked books and an old minnow bucket full of orange tulips. Oh, how I love orange tulips!

You might remember seeing this old window in last year’s Spring Mantel. I got a bit tired of the busy fabric, so I snagged a yard of yellow and white chevron fabric for 50% off at Hancock’s. I love the graphic simplicity and color that the chevron gives.

My Ballard Designs Knock Off Garden Stool is on one side of the fireplace with an old scale that I recently found at the thrift store. I’ve been looking for an old scale for months and almost ran for it when I saw it. But, don’t worry. I tried to restrain myself to preserve my dignity…well, most of it.

I have a thing for old yard sticks. Someday, I will create something amazing from my growing collection.

Just a bit more eye candy…

Decorating with things that make me smile is so rewarding!

A little green cut glass candle holder…love.

And there she is, folks. My Spring 2012 Mantel!

I hope you enjoyed looking at it as much as I enjoyed putting it together! 🙂

  2. Apart from Titebond, you can also have Yellow glue that most of the carpenters use to stick the wood materials. One more option for you is 3M’s Scotch-Weld Structural Woodworking Adhesive which is also one of the best glue for wood.

  3. Lovely, Myra! You are so inspiring! I think I will take this weekend to try to do some spring decor as well. I always am so inspired with your decor.
I think that a bit of fresh flowers make all the difference, don’t they? I just picked up a bunch of daisies at Trader Joes and it makes me smile every time I walk by the table. Sometimes it’s the simple things. 🙂

  4. I love this! I love the vintagey feeling of the whole thing…and the lemons and tulips just pull it all together and make it so fresh!. Great job!

  5. I love it, so very pretty. I’m sad I don’t have more “decorate-able” mantle… It is on my very, very long list of things to improve.

  7. Hey!
I wonder why there are not many people who whistle or hum as they work. Is it that everyone is that miserable? I doubt it. I think we’ve become a society full of individuals who have shut out everyone else. Therefore there is no one to hear the whistling or the humming.Agen Domino Kiu

  8. Yeah! Am I the first comment? I guess waking up at 3am paid off! I do visit blogs a lot, but I don’t have a blog. I hae seen the pinterest button a few times, and never paid much attention to it. I just went to that website, pinterest. Okay, I am sorry if I sound dumb, but what is it about? Or, why would someone like me want to visit that site? Thanks Amanda! –Mindy.annuity

  9. You and all the other so called Hollywood celebs who are nothing but ignorant, classless, leftist assholes all suck!!! I want to start with so called sewer mouth “Raging Asshole” Di Nero.
