My Word for 2012!!

Ever since my friend, Layla, wrote about her “word” for 2012, I’ve been pondering about what my word should be. There are SO many great words, but one that I couldn’t get out of my mind is what might seem silly to some, but I’m going with it.

Does that sound silly?

The basis for my word of the year are these words from Colossians…

Seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

It is so easy to get so focused on things on earth that I lose my heavenly focus – the focus that keeps me strong, keeps me consistent and keeps my heart loving, serving and enjoying life.

This year, I want to…

Seek above

Look above

Rise above

Think above

I want to do and be those “above” things.

  1. Myra, what a great scripture and word to focus on this year. My word(s) come from 1 Corinthians 14:1 – pursue love. I may have to come up with some challenge/focus points to go with my word as well. Thanks for sharing.

  2. My word for 2012 is definitely JOY! I spent too many years feeling “stuck” and errantly believing it was where God wanted me. My family and I did not have joy. I grew up with bitterness and disappointment stiffling my mother and others in my family. I thought it was NORMAL. But aha, God wants me to walk fully in his blessings. I have fought back and my boys and I walk in joy everyday (some more than others).

  3. I can’t think of a better word, Myra, to keep our focus where it needs to be! When we look (and think) above, it’s a focus outside of ourselves! The look above will move us to look out in service to others and help keep the bigger-than-it-should be self minimized! All to the glory of God! I’m proud of you! Love and Hugs! Mom

  4. WOW! I love your word. I need to remember to look above when things of this life become overwhelming and scary. Thank you so much for the inspiration. Visiting from Layla’s!

  6. Have you about the “Occupy Wall Street” movement? I don’t advocate extreme action but I think there is an imbalance in compensation. I’m trying to think of a word to express this but haven’t decided on the best one. Some possibilities: balance (works for a number of different situations), fairness (ditto), equality (so many situations). Anyone have thoughts on this?

  7. As I was contemplating what my word would be, the word “Whatever” came to mind. I hesitated and then more words came.
“WHATEVER is true, WHATEVER is noble, WHATEVER is right, WHATEVER is pure, WHATEVER is lovely, WHATEVER is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” Phil. 4:8
