Giving Thanks Cigar Box

/ /

I’m thrilled to bring my Giving Thanks Cigar Box project to y’all today!  It is one of those projects that started out completely different than it ended and I couldn’t be more excited!

How cute is that?!  It is perfect for this time of  year…and always.

I found an old black cigar box at my favorite antique shop for just a few bucks. The rope handle pretty much stole my heart as soon as I saw it.  I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going to create with it, but then my new Silhouette CAMEO and vinyl starter kit arrived and my creative juices began flowing.

I designed the text “Giving Thanks” and “Thankful Box” in the Silhouette Studio software program and then cut it out which was super easy!

I carefully peeled away the excess vinyl. And then I set it aside to prepare the box.

The other day when I was doing the massive carport cleanout/cleanup, I found an old hymnal. Yay!  I love crafting with sheet music! I arranged four pages, trimmed them where needed and then glued them together.

I {heart} this amazing Elmer’s craft bond glue stick that I used last week for my party food labels.

Then, I carefully burned the edges of the pages just a little bit.  I was standing over a sink of running water just in case I needed to douse a flaming page. 🙂  I’ve always wanted to try this little “burned” detail and it worked beautifully!  I used a bit more of my Elmer’s glue stick to attach the paper to the box.

I transferred the vinyl words onto the Silhouette transfer paper and then I carefully lined the letters up before pressing them down onto the box.  I used the scraper to press the letters onto the box, so that the transfer paper came off perfectly!

Since my pumpkin specimen art project left me with pieces of scrapbook paper, I decided to cut them up and put them in the cigar box with a marker.  What could be better this time of year than a box with paper and pen to record what we’re thankful for?!

I love this printable gratitude journal from Motherhood…Your Way! Whether you have a box, jar, basket or notebook…giving thanks is always, always good. 🙂

Do you have a special way to record things that you’re thankful for?

XO

  1. Oh Myra!! You had me at cigar box {as you know} but this is just amazing. We have all sorts of old hymnals and I was thinking the other day I wanted a way to record the blessings of November … this is perfect!! I’ll have to get started on my own “Give Thanks” box {after Relevant!}.

  2. I have a gratitude journal. Keeps me grounded and gracious.
This is such a such a great idea, and I’m thinking what a lovely gift this would make. Have lots of ladies in my life who would love this. So clever. Thanks for sharing!

  3. The sheet music addition is lovely! It’s so awesome to see what nice crafts you can create with something as simple as a cigar box. Thanks for sharing!
