Delicious Slow Cooker Chicken

/

My mom got me hooked on this fantastically easy slow cooker chicken recipe years ago when I was still at home. The beauty of this recipe is that it can be totally customized with various herbs and spices. You seriously can’t mess it up…and throwing all the ingredients in the slow cooker only takes a few minutes.

World’s Easiest Slow Cooker Recipe

  • Chicken  {I buy organic whole chickens and chicken breasts. Use whatever you like or have on hand.}
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 T. olive oil or butter
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • freshly ground black pepper {I usually just give my grinder a few twists}
  • herbs & spices – garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, McCormick garlic & herb blend etc.

Place the chicken in the bottom of the slow cooker.  I’ve done both frozen and thawed chicken…so whichever is fine…as long as you get the insides out of a frozen whole chicken before hand. 🙂

Add sliced onion, water, salt & pepper, spices, oil or butter.  Turn the slow cooker on high for 4-5 hours or low for 8-10 hours. Cover it up and forget about it for the rest of the day…or until you start smelling the deliciousness wafting through your house!

This slow cooker chicken recipe always, always, always produces the most tender, delicious chicken in the world! 🙂  Yummo!

How do you normally cook chicken? Boiled, baked in the oven?

  1. Love my slow cooker. Easiest way ever to cook! Just made some chicken (for the first time) for tacos a few days ago. Frozen chicken breasts, a little water, garlic powder, onion powder, Mrs. Dash table blend (this is my go-to seasoning for everything). When I started smelling it, I added one chipotle pepper and let it cook a little longer. So yummy. I really like pork roasts in the crock. Either just a can of cream of mushroom or with sauerkraut. Best invention ever, well, after electricity of course!

  4. Made this for dinner tonight, and it was delicious. We shredded chicken with a fork, Hubby made burrito with spanish rice and beans, I did the wrap with shredded lettuce and the little ones did taco. Very tender and juicy, definitely on our weekly menu! Thank you!

    1. As many as you want to. Whatever you have will work. I actually like to do a big batch, so I can use leftovers for chicken salad. 🙂

  5. I normally try and brown my proteins to get a little carmelization before putting them in the crock pot – would it be good to do here too?

  7. For me, baking comes natural, not cooking. So I came across your recipe yesterday. I put frozen chicken breast in the crockpot and followed your recipe. I turned out delish!!! Thank you for posting recipes with ingredients that I already have in my kitchen!

    1. I know this recipe was posted years ago, but I just wanted thank you for this is easy and delicious meal. I’ve made it a few times now and my whole family has loved it. This past time, I decided to try something that you may want to add to the recipe. After it cooked all day according to your recipe, I removed all the chicken and put it on a plate. At the time we were making rice to go with it. I was about to dump the leftover juice which was very hot, when I suddenly thought “gravy!” I took around 1/4 cup of flour and just dumped it right in the juice and started stirring. Within a minute I had a thick gravy that I added salt too until it was perfect. The chicken, dipped in the gravy, was amazing, and it was so easy. Anyway, thanks again for the wonderful recipe!

  10. What size slow cooker is needed for this meal? I’m trying to decide between the 6 qt or 8 qt instant pot and have no idea if 6 qt is big enough for 4 lb chicken and all the veggies. There are only 2 of us so not sure if 8 qt is overkill? Looks yummy! Thanks.rluy

  15. Tania, one square of chocolate is equal to one ounce (so you need two ounces for this recipe) and a stick of butter is roughly 4 oz (1/4 pound). I’m making this tonight, looks good.rluy

  17. Hi, We like to drive the boat to deserted beaches and enjoy picnics and playing in the sand. The cold water scares most boaters away (and the lake is surrounded by national forest, so no houses directly on the lake), so often we are the only ones out there! There are some warmer reservoirs in southern Colorado that are better for swimming, I’m going to make this next time we go and I know everyone will love it.Meal Prep Near Me

  18. So, I am confused. You prepare the Oatmeal according to the directions and use 2 1/2 cups of prepared oatmeal for the recipe? I have never heard of anything like that before. Just want to make sure I do it right! 🙂exotic fruits

  19. Oh! Well like I said in the post, it’s really great! Unless you were asking someone else? I bet you could totally use non fat evaporated milk! Might not be AS creamy, but still work. Good luck!Banana benefits
