Fabulous Party Food Labels

Hey y’all!  I hope your weekend was great!  I spent a large part of the weekend working on updating and reorganizing my project gallery page.  Reorganizing my recipes is next. Yay!

Today, I’m thrilled to show you how to make the most adorable party food labels ever. From my party hosting experience, I’ve found that it’s oftentimes helpful to have food labeled, so guests don’t have to ask or skip over a particular food.  These cute food labels take the guess work out out of party food and they are ridiculously easy to make!

I recently made several labels for a Chex Mix party…more on that fun time later this week!

Elmer’s sent me a wonderful package of various sized foam board, glue and an X-acto knife. Their 101 Uses for Inspired Users Guide features a place card project which inspired my party food label “twist.” The uses for Elmer’s Foam Board products are nearly endless and working with foam board for this project was an absolute dream!

Party Food Labels Tutorial

Supplies Needed:

  • Bi-fold Elmer’s foam board
  • X-acto knife
  • Ruler
  • Elmer’s glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Copy paper for printing
  • Embellishments {ribbon, buttons, etc}
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

I decided to use Elmer’s Bi-Fold foam board because I wanted my food labels to stand up and the perfect fold was already “scored” for me.  I marked the foam board in half vertically and in five equal rows horizontally, so after I cut, there were 10 folding pieces of foam board…perfection!  Cutting with the x-acto knife was super easy because I used my yard stick as a guide along the pen lines.

Don’t stress if you have a bump here or there on the edges. It’s totally fine and we’re going to cover them right up!

I have a confession. I haven’t used a glue stick for years…probably since middle school.  But this Elmer’s Craft Bond glue stick has me hooked. I can’t believe how easy it was to use. Wow.  It is also acid free, photo safe and non-toxic.  Coolness!

Using leftover scrapbook paper from my Pumpkin Specimen Art project, I cut out pieces that were slightly larger than the foam board. {This hides any uneven foam board edges.}

Another confession…we finally have a wireless printer that works!  It is such a new phenomenon {for me} to be able to click print from anywhere in the house and have what I need at the printer. Amazingness!  I made my food labels in Microsoft Word, then I cut them out and glued them over the scrapbook paper “stands.”

Even Ridley got in on the Elmer’s action! 🙂

Ooo, la, la!   I’m so excited about how well these food labels turned out with just a few embellishments from my stash. Ribbons, silk leaves, buttons and sweet gum seed pods take my party food labels to the next level, don’t you think?  🙂 I used my hot glue gun for the embellishments.

I love Elmer’s foam board and I’m absolutely positive that I’ll be using it again in the very near future! 🙂

These party food labels were for a Chex Mix party {obviously!}, but they could be used for any party including receptions, open houses, house warming parties and more!  The possibilities are endless.

Fun question of the day: Have you used a glue stick lately?

  1. I use glue sticks all the time with my grandchildren but I have not seen the Craft Bond. I will definitely be on the look out for it! And I had to go and look at your pumpkins as well….too cute! Thanks for all the good ideas.

  5. I am not crafty and therefore don’t have many crafting supplies…. but believe or not I have been using a glue stick lately! I’ve been trying to pick out easy crafts to do with my just turned 3 year old (today!). Right now we’re enjoying cutting simple shapes out of colored construction paper and letting him glue them on a plain piece of paper to create a scene. I like using foam board too, I used some this summer for VBS. They give things a nice depth – I need to get some of my own!

  6. No, I haven’t used a glue stick in a long time but I have one on my list of things to buy. I’m planning on using it to glue Halloween labels on old bottles. Thanks for the food label inspiration.

  7. Hi thanks so much for such a fun idea. Would you mind sharing what font you used? Thank you for all your hard work and great ideas!!!

  8. I’ve been using Craft Bond sticks since they came out. They are my go-to glue for the Love Gift cards which I make by the hundreds. Paper doesn’t wrinkle and the hold is great. Can’t wait to get my hands on the foam board by Elmers. Do you know who is carrying it? I was just thinking about party food labels this week. Absolutely the right post for me! Thanks so much.

  9. Myra…I LOVE the food labels! Great job. They’re so pretty & fun. It was wonderful meeting you at Haven. You did a great job in “I Like Big Blogs” & it was great sitting next to you in the Blog PR session! Hope you’re having a great week! <3 Heidi Rew from Parties for Pennies
