DIY Clothespin Starburst Mirror

/

I’m so excited to share my latest DIY home decor project with you – my Clothespin Starburst Mirror!  Y’all.  This project cost me under $5!! Did your heart just skip a beat too? Talk about easy and cheap!

{swoon}

Since I scored a bag of vintage German clothespins last week at the estate sale, I’ve been brainstorming about what to do with them. I finally found some inspiration so I could play along during the fabulous Pinterest challenge!  Woot!

{my inspiration – a clothespin wreath from my DIY Projects board}

Supplies Needed:

  • 6″ mirror {I got mine at Hobby Lobby for 50% off  – 1.50}
  • 33 clothespins {My vintage clothespins {0.50} plus 3 from a new pack – I used a Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon – 1.20}
  • cardboard {I used a 8″ cake board – {0.33}
  • pen and scissors
  • hot glue and glue gun
  • picture hanger

Cut out a 6″ cardboard circle 1/2″ wide.  Apply a band of hot glue.

Attach cardboard circle to the mirror. The cardboard helps stabilize the clothespins, so don’t leave this step out!

Add four clothespins to the mirror.  Don’t glue them down…yet.

Use a round object {I used a Pyrex bowl} to help you line up the clothespins in a perfect circle.

Squeeze hot glue into a clothespin and then quickly add it to the mirror. Continue this process.

You’ll begin to see something that looks like this.

After a few more minutes, you’ll have a brand new, adorable starburst mirror!

Handy Tip: As you add the clothespins, be sure to evenly space them along the outer edge.

Squeal! Isn’t it adorable?!

My mirror is currently propped because I haven’t hot glued a hanger on the back yet, but that’s in the works, yo! 🙂

You could also use the mirror as a candle stand.

I haven’t completely decided whether or not I’m going to leave the mirror natural or if I should spray paint it. Any thoughts? 🙂

I’m completely blown away with how easy {and frugal} it is to crank out this starburst mirror!

Y’all have fun with this little project, okay?!

  1. Too cute! This would be fun to hang in the laundry room, too. Love your frugal decor projects – I may try this one!

  2. I think this is just adorable! It’s one of those- “Oh that’s a cute little mirror… wait a minute! Are those clothes pins?!” lol I like them natural too, but maybe if there is a way to make them look aged. Oil rubbed? I dunno. You’re the pro here. 😉 As always, thank you for sharing your brilliant work!

    1. Oooo, I love the aged idea. Maybe some kind of white wash distressed look or something. 🙂 xo

  3. I love this project, Myra! Wouldn’t it be adorable hanging in a laundry room? It would be adorable lots of other places, too, but just darling in a laundry room.

    I think I like the clothespins natural, but they’d also look good if they were just a tad darker–maybe sort of a honey color. They’d be cool painted and distressed a bit, too. I don’t think you can go wrong! 🙂

    1. Thank you Richella! How I miss you!! I think I might make another mirror and paint it a fun, funky color. 😉

  4. I was so inspired by this that I had to “copy” it today! My clothespins are a little different, well, so is the mirror for that matter. Guess I better get a post written so I can give you credit. Thanks so much! Oh I painted my pins with watered down acrylic paint to match my kitchen. But either way its a great idea!

    1. Thanks Diana! This project is so easy and it would even make a great housewarming or birthday gift. 🙂

  5. Absolutely adorable! I’m thinking for a kids room it would be so cute to paint the clothes pins different colors – primary colors or even pastels. Definitely going to go out and get supplies to make this!
    Thanks for sharing!!!

  6. We are adding on to our house and I may have to make one of these for my new laundry room! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  7. I love these old clothespins, I remember my mom using them. This is a cute idea, thank you. A piece of vintage fabric or a crocheted doily like my grandmother used to make would look great in the center, too. So, I guess you need to make more. Oh! A picture of a great-grandmother would be great, too. My name is Loo
