That Apple Green Desk

/

One of my very favorite pieces of furniture is my apple green vanity desk. I’ve gotten so many emails about it, so I decided this desk needed it’s own dedicated post! 🙂  I took a huge risk painting by painting it bright green, but after a year of nothing but loving it, I think it’s safe to say that this piece of furniture is here to stay.

It didn’t start out so beautifully though. I found the desk at a thrift store and immediately knew that it was going home with me.

After a lot of sanding and painting, this desk had a new lease on life.  I had Home Depot color match Benjamin Moore’s Huntington Green paint color.

At our old house, I had the desk in the foyer and decorated it very simply with yard sale and thrift shop finds.

I love how easily I can incorporate the desk into my Christmas decor.  Looking at this picture just makes me so excited to decorate for Christmas at our new house!

This was the desk {at our new house} decorated for Valentine’s Day.

I’m working on freshening up my desk with some new things for summer. I’ll be sure to show you what it looks when I get it finished!

I have two side tables that I’m going to be re-doing and probably painting. I’m psyching myself up to {possibly} paint one of them a bright, happy color! 🙂

Have a fabulo-so weekend, y’all!

I’m linking up to Shaunna’s Furniture party and Miss Mustard Seed!

  1. I found you on Stumbleupon… usually, that’s where my loyalty to the things I find on Stumbleupon ends, but I clicked around your blog and fell in love! This delicious little desk was the clincher, I subscribed to the RSS. Thanks for this!!

    1. Awww, Elizabeth, you made my day!!!! 🙂 Thank you so much for your comment and I’m excited that you are enjoying my blog!

  2. I have a very similar (borderline “creepy” similar 🙂 desk that belonged to my grandmother. Love the desk and have been wanting to paint it but have been afraid to commit…the green is BE-U-TI-FUL!! I was thinking blue, but now….hmmmm…something to ponder 🙂 Thanks for the post!

  3. I love your desk too! My current painting project is a kitchen table for my daughters college house. So far it’s white, the next step is distressing it or antiqueing stain…depends on which fabric they choose for the chair seats. I have never been to Willow Tree fabrics, so we may check there!

  4. I love when I see creative people do something like this to furniture. I would NEVER have thought to paint this “antique”, but I so, so love this green!

  5. I LOVE the green desk! Can I ask what color/paint you used for it? I want to paint a wall in our art room an apple green color but I’m having a hard time finding the right one. Do you think the color is too bright for a wall? Thanks for your help!!

    1. The color I used is Benjamin Moore’s Huntington Green. It may be a little bright for a wall, but you could get a sample and try it out. 🙂

  6. LOVE IT!!! Now, I’m going to have to find something to paint that apple green. 😉 I also love that you included photos of your seasonal decorating…super cute ideas. Thanks for posting!

    1. Thanks sweet Ashlie! If you paint something apple green, I wanna see, okay? Have a fabulous evening! 🙂

  7. I had an old, ugly, veneered piano that I painted Pear Green (benjamin moore) about a year ago. My husband walked in and said I had lost my mind! But everyone that comes over raves about it. I love, love, love it. You must be my soul sister!

  8. I have a vanity just almost exactly like that! Drawers and handles and everything! And it looks like the before pic. I was gonna put it out on the curb for someone to pick up but now I think I’m gonna keep it thanks to you. Looks like I just found myself a project! That color of green is my favorite color! Great job!

  9. I have almost that exact same vanity! I was about to put it out on my curb for someone to pick up. Now thanks to you I have a project to look forward to. Right now it looks like your before pic. Same handles and everything. Wow!Great job, and that color green is my fav.!

  10. Dear Myra,

absolutely love your blog and will keenly be following. I love DIY home projects and redid a lost IKEA coffee table with old postcards which is just wonderful now! keep posting new ideas and love the desk and so many other things in your blog! cheers

  11. I have a similar desk. Looks like you have the original handles; mine says around the 1920’s; you might want to check yours out. A friend and I went to a home sale, and we found the desk in the yard. It had been splashed with all colors of paint, probably used in the garage for a utility surface. She bought it for $2.25 in a bid! lol. Took it home and spent weeks cleaning it with smelling solution to get the stain and paint off, scraping it down, then sanding it by hand and finally restaining it several times before it became a beautiful dark wood glow. I always admired it, and when she left for Texas, she gave it to me. I will keep it forever, remembering the care she gave it, and her being such a good friend in leaving it in my care. 🙂

  12. I’m in love with your apple green desk. I want one, too! I’m inspired to do the same. I’m hunting down an old desk at this moment….and can’t wait to transform it into something beautiful!

  13. Wow! You did an amazing job on the desk! This will be on my “to do” list, it’s truly an inspiration 🙂

You should post your before & after on http://www.picklee.com, its a DIY inspiration site for sharing your creations!

  14. I’m wondering what you use to finish over the desk? I refinished a table but the paint came out very sticky? I know I didn’t use the right thing, however I’m trying to save the guess work and ask the “experts” LOL

I used black paint – and insight would help 🙂 Thanks, Cristina
