Design Portfolio: Internship Project

/

During my Senior year in college, I interned with a fabulous lady named Brian.  She owns The Galleries of Brian Brigham and her design work has been featured in Southern Living magazine. When I worked for her the “shop” was housed in a 12,000 square foot southern mansion. It was amazing!

PhotobucketEvery morning after my classes, I went to work or “play” with Brian. We went to client’s homes for consultations, picked out fabrics, went shopping, sorted out estate sale items and rearranged the shop. Brian is an antique expert and she instilled in me both a love for old things and how to blend old and new in the same space.

During my time working with Brian, we designed a model home apartment space. It was my first big project experience and I loved every minute.

We chose everything for this space – the paint colors, furniture, accessories, art, window coverings….etc. Just what I love to do! 🙂

The kitchen wall treatment looks like a paint faux finish, but it’s actually wall paper! Love it!  The rug is an antique.

We used a lot of old/antique furniture and gave it new life with paint, upholstery etc. I’m not a huge fan of the TV being over the fireplace, but that’s how it had to be for the builder.

I have such fond memories of those days.  My design internship was such a great experience that I won’t ever forget.

When I make it back to my college town, I always give Brian a call. It is so fun to give her a hug and catch up on life…she influenced my life and my eclectic design style in a huge way.  While my taste and style have evolved since then, I dearly treasure the wisdom that I gained from Brian.

I’ll be sharing more from my interior design portfolio over the next few months…so stay tuned. 🙂

What is your favorite decorating style?
