Before & After: A Mirror Makeover

/

You might remember that back in late-April, I bought an antique desk and mirror from a thrift store. I painted the desk apple green and totally made over one wall in my foyer.  {swoon}

The other wall, opposite of the green desk, has been blankly glaring at me for months.  On Thursday, I finally decided to do something about it.

I pulled out the mirror that looked like this:

Love the shape. Love the details. Hate the scratches, dents and damage.  The frame (below the crown) is quite cracked.

I taped off the mirror and spray painted the frame black with my handy spray paint gun. Then I lightly dry-brushed the frame with apple green paint left over from the desk redo.

So much better. But something was still missing. I’m all into layers right now, so I started poking around the house for an idea.

I grabbed an empty picture frame that I picked up at a yardsale for 0.25 and I attached it to the mirror with black grosgrain ribbon.

The picture frame kept wanting to tilt away from the mirror, so I used thumbtacks to secure the ribbon to the frame.

Then I remembered that I had purchased black Uppercase Living letters (F-A-M-I-L-Y) for another project that didn’t work out because the letters were much too big. Oops! I found the “Y” and applied it directly to the mirror. (In case you’re wondering, our last name begins with Y.)  🙂

I couldn’t be more pleased with the makeover. I’m no longer glared at by an empty wall. Instead I can walk past it with a little pitter-pat in my heart. This project was so easy and didn’t cost me a dime!

Ta-da! LOVE it!

Have you done a DIY project lately? I’d love to hear about it!
